Lord God,

I thank you for my local church,

That you call us to be a light for you to the people all around us,

I pray that as we seek to love others,

And carry out our various ministries and missions,

Help us to keep the heart of our focus,

On making Jesus known to all people,

I pray that as we share the good news about Jesus,

Help us to resist the pressures to water it down,

So that it is less offensive to the crowds,

But teach us to preach the gospel in its entirety,

Even if it means being mocked by those who consider the cross foolish,

I pray that you would remind us that we don’t need to add to the gospel,

By making it more persuasive, flashy and attractive,

But that you call us to merely be faithful and clear messengers,

Passing on the good news of Jesus which you first gave to us,

Which is powerful in itself to save those who believe in it.
