The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way” “a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’ ” And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. Mark 1:1-5 NIV
One is more likely to succeed if preparation occurs. God wanted people’s hearts prepared for the coming of His Son. Unless one’s heart is properly prepared, it cannot accept the invitation offered by Jesus Christ. This world has a way of controlling its inhabitants. One truly must have an abrupt change of heart in order to accept Jesus Christ. One must let go of the desires offered by this world and adhere to the Lord.
Many went out to John the Baptist from Jerusalem and the whole countryside. They proclaimed their sins and were baptized in the Jordan. The hearts of many were thus prepared for the coming of the Lord.
Do you remember the steps you took to prepare for the coming of the Lord into your heart? Reflect back on them and rejoice in all which the Lord has done for you. You are saved through Him!
