Sabbath 5/18/19 Alfred Station Seventh Day Baptist Pastor Ken sermon “Take On the Armor of God” Ephesians 6:10-18
The Bible talks of the devil as a lion seeking whom he may devour. The Bible says we should put on God’s armor for protection. It will help us to NOT get tricked or fooled by the devil’s lies and tricks. Paul is talking about how we should walk as Christians. He is saying to do this…Be strong in the Lord and be strengthened in His might. We are weak. We are sometimes weak in our faith. When we are weak then we are made strong in the Lord. This Lord is the God of the Old Testament. Put on the whole, complete armor of God. The full, complete armor of God is what we should put on.
Paul names the pieces of armor he wants us to put on. He wants us to concentrate on what they stand for. The God of Israel is a warrior God. He is described as a warrior in the book of Joshua and Isaiah. In Joshua, the Captain of the Lord of Hosts was fully armored and ready to fight. We are to put on the armor of God so we can stand fast and not be tricked by the wiles of the devil. The devil is a liar. He lied to Eve. He also knows how to twist the scriptures. He tried to do this when trying to tempt Jesus. The devil can appear as an angel of light. Put on the complete/full armor of God because evil is organized and divided up into rankings. We need to put on our armor because we are standing in a war. We are in toe to toe and hand to hand combat with the devil and his demons.
