“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
God has a purpose for you, but in order to fulfill that purpose, you must be strong in the Lord. To do that you must be constantly in the word. Have you ever felt so frustrated that you felt like giving up? I think we all feel that way at one time or another. I think my whole life is about giving up. If something just doesn’t go the way I wanted it to go, I would give up.
I think we all have weaknesses that we need to overcome. Like depression, schizophrenia, eating disorders, gambling habits, homosexuality, a speech impediment, back pain, poor eyesight or hearing loss. When you feel so frustrated, that is the time we need to look to Jesus, “fight the good fight of the faith”, and finish our race. We were alone facing those situations in our lives, but now we as Christians, we have a friend in Jesus who we can turn to and ask for help.
Our desires should be to make sure that we fully submit to God to resist the temptations the devil may throw our way. For we are promised that no temptation will be too difficult for us because God himself will make a way for us to stand up under every temptation. We may suffer and it may be difficult, but we can overcome every trial in Christ. The Bible says that He will finish what He started in you. We might fail again, and again, and might even think that we have no hope. But we are wrong if we think that Christ will give up on us because we are not perfect.
Yes, we are not perfect, but He will not stop loving us. Don’t give up when you have failed in sin. Don’t wallow in your mistakes. Repent, get your eyes off yourself, and keep your eyes on Jesus. Get up and get back in the fight. No matter how hard we pray, at times it can feel like God is taking an eternity to show up and do something about our circumstances. In those moments, Satan wants to use our impatience to convince us to doubt God’s faithfulness.
God reminds us through the Bible that He is with us and He has not forgotten us. God always hears us when we call on Him. He doesn’t always give us what we want, but He always gives us what is best for us. If we trust the Lord, even when we don’t understand, we can begin to see where the Lord is working in our lives. Whether it’s experiencing His faithfulness through a financial need, or His goodness through our Christian friendships that show us support and encouragement.
When we ask for help and then seek God, He will open our eyes to experience Him in new ways that bring us closer to Him. God’s understanding is far greater than ours and we have to trust that His timing is perfect. We serve a mighty God who will never abandon us and who wants the best for our lives. It’s not always easy to wait in a world of instant gratification. But if we stop limiting God to our own deadlines, demands, and desires, we can experience a calmness amidst the chaos in our lives.
Satan also uses fear to his advantage. For fear can be a powerful motivator to get men and women to either behave wickedly or refrain from behaving righteously. Fear is the antithesis of faith, and if Satan can fill a person’s heart with fear, there will be no place for faith in God or His love and mercy. As Christians, we should never give up because it’s not our strength that sustains us, but the strength that we get from Jesus that maintains us.
