Witness Nation (Prophecy Return)

Forgive us our eyes, O Lord, and our ears

                which have yet seen thunder

                                or heard the lightning.

Forgive us our hearts, which have not beheld our love.

O Lord, inspire in you more than the curious smile,

                                                a stranger’s look

                                                                upon freedom.

Why have you scorned your servant,

and left him dreaming only his condemnation:

                                self a fragile flask        broken

                spilling forth its precious ointment?

Assignment has meant special Creator –

renaming one, Water Out of Clear Blue Sky,

                                and Obedient Prisoner.

Your Justice has fashioned my incarceration;

Your Law has but wrought my crucifixion;

Your glance has shaped my figure for the oven.

Wood is cut with a saw, and metal with a diamond,

                but Spirit is safe even against a Satan.

Behold and become My promise of glory,

                where rocks issue out a spring,

and a new People pay homage to an Ancient Lord.

Pondering the End                  

Plead in death before a crucified Christ

                what must live            forever in you.

                Moisture him with songs of praise

                  with woodcarving that amazes

                          and splendidly erases

                      all the fine fingers of type.

A muse no longer amusing,

no longer dreaming someone dwells in goodness.

Behold, the missing words are the missing parts in me.

How can a bird sing             for whom

        the Lord has given no voice?

Wherefore, the beginnings of a soul unbegun.
