HOW MARRIAGE WORKS!
It's simply appalling to hear some young men and women converge in groups and destroy their potential marriages with their negative words before they even identify their 'unfortunate' spouse! How do you expect to experience a pleasant marital relationship when you keep speaking evil, negativity and doom about your future home and spouse? And for the married, how do you run down, castigate and gossip about your spouse to your friends and expect to meet a peaceful, romantic and loving marital relationship awaiting you at home? If you want a great marriage, watch what you say and do and your circle of friends. These would influence you towards a great or disastrous marriage.
And since what we focus on determines our measure of success, we should prepare more for a successful marriage than we prepared for that wedding! We do this by developing, mastering and practicing the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-26.
But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others ESPECIALLY YOUR SPOUSE], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting TOLERATING YOUR SPOUSE'S IMPERFECTIONS], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control [WHICH INCLUDES TONGUE CONTROL]. Against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature together with its passions and appetites.
If we [claim to] live by the [Holy] Spirit, we must also walk by the Spirit [with personal integrity, godly character, and moral courage—our conduct empowered by the Holy Spirit]. We must not become conceited, challenging or provoking one another, envying one another. (Never COMPETING, but COMPLEMENTING and COMPLETING each other).
The wedding lasts for less than a day, but, our marriage lasts a life time. The wedding invites many as an occasion, but, the marriage requires great discipline and total commitment from just two of you with God as your bedrock to make your relationship a huge success!
The wedding might not have been the talk of the town, but with preparation, planning and patience your marriage could remain romantic, rich and resourceful all your life!
SO, WHERE IS YOUR FOCUS, THE WEDDING OR THE MARRIAGE?
WHAT'S YOUR MAIN CONCERN, YOUR PARTNER'S FAULTS OR YOURS?
Years of struggle and challenges have swept away the romance and excitement of the wedding and honeymoon of many, so, they took the easy, but not the best pathway of divorce. Please read 1Cor.6:1-8.
However, by hearing and reading sound Christian messages and books on marriage, in addition to praying and putting into practice the fruit of the Holy Spirit mentioned above in Galatians 5:22-26 in your present or potential marriage, God is restoring your life to your highest expectations. Its a new dawn for you and your marriage. Now, for you already married, pray and prepare for yet another honeymoon. Hallelujah!
