Back in the early 90’s, home computers were glorified typewriters, mobile phones were like bricks, and the internet hadn’t yet made the encyclopedia obsolete.  Rapid advances in chip speed and software functionality, combined with reductions in size, portability and price, have changed everything and guaranteed that these technologies would be fully embraced and integrated into every aspect of our lives.  Search engines, social media platforms, and smartphones have given us access to the world’s knowledge and enabled us to connect with anyone on the planet.  NOW, we wonder how we could ever live without them.

But, have all these advances actually enhanced and benefitted our lives? YES and NO! Almost everyone applauds the greater knowledge, opportunities, and convenience that being connected gives us.  Google, Facebook, You Tube, and other platforms have become an integral part of our lives. Technology has dramatically changed the way we buy food, pay bills, keep in contact with friends, and much more.  BUT serious downsides have arisen that need to be overcome, because disconnecting is not an option.  Fake news, fake friends, scammers, hackers, trolls, cyber bullies, spam, porn, and identity theft have created a crisis of confidence.  The great potential for good is being hindered by the unscrupulous who can manipulate the system for evil.

The irony in all this is that there is so much data, information and opinions out there, that many have become more and more confused and uncertain about what is true and who they can trust.  This is especially true concerning religions.  They can’t all be true, so, who do you believe and how do you know you’ve made the right choice?  Maybe, none of its true, as the atheists claim?   

Jesus anticipated this struggle for truth, when He said, “For this cause, I was born, and I came into the world, THAT I SHOULD BEAR WITNESS TO THE TRUTH.  Everyone who is of the truth will hear My voice.”  Later, He made things clearer saying, “I AM the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE; no one can come to GOD, except through Me.”   The boldness of His claims divided His listeners.  Some called Jesus a LIAR who cannot be trusted; others call Him a LUNATIC who cannot be believed; but others decided His claims were far too important to ignore without finding out more.  What about you?

In John 7:16,17, Jesus promises, “My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me.  If anyone is willing to do His will, they shall know concerning the teaching, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority.”    Jesus is calling you to get off the fence and find out for yourself whether He is who He says He is – because your eternal destiny is at stake.  READ JOHN’S Gospel, and ask Jesus to reveal Himself to you.
