Some Storms are Personal

                We can’t all be weathermen –

marking out patterns in ever more scientific bars and charts,

then missing … the stall, the turnabout, the drop in temperature,

                the mysterious appearance of a jet stream

to stain spotless forecasts and twist hard calculations of yesterday;

                                still unflinching and undaunted,

                proceeding to tomorrow’s preview with all the assurance

                and all the spirited certitude of a prophet of God.

                We can’t all be irrepressible –

some of us must be moved by error, set back by disappointment:

in lines expressing dimly the emotions which pushed and prompted them,

                                emitting in dapper script only

                the posting of some wasted force          charted a heartbreak long

                                                                and about a worry to worry apart;

                stationaries rebounding, to be sure,

but not without the stalled argument of precious confidence

                                                forever lost to natural fate.

Separation             

A rejection once more I cannot glance over,

                a disappointment I cannot turn the page on,

                a fall in correction of startled bridle rise.

I wish God were cowboy enough to shoot his lame horse.

Let rider by force take blanket to rump

                and put saddle upon himself to trot out,

                be made to stride in full range of his limited wisdom,

                                sorely           in bare feet and barren soul.

Who now declares, “I alone have the key to eternal life?”

Once more and forever true:

no where a human being and nowhere a God:

does the evidence of one imply the reality of the other?

                Everlasting the team, everlasting the pact,

everlasting the marriage that heaven has cheated upon.

Everything is Good to Go

“Good to go” by act or travel fare

in the processing of human admission …

                       though by fault-ridden application:

                shall never compose souls complete and done,

                hearts good enough, much less ready to go to heaven.
