Title: OUT OF EGYPT

At the closing of the book of Genesis, we find Israel safely at home in the land of Egypt along with the blessing of Pharaoh. But as we come to the book of Exodus, a new Pharaoh arose who did not know about Joseph and his family and how they arrived in Egypt. He did know, that their numbers were growing and fear came upon the Egyptians that the Israelites would eventually outnumber them and take over their land and become their enemies. To compensate for this problem, Pharaoh subjected the whole nation of Israel to become his slaves for over 400 years. During this time, they cried out to God to be delivered.

God heard and remembered their prayer, but it was a long time before the answer was realized. It took 80 years for God to call and prepare Moses for the task of delivering Israel out of Egypt. At 80 years old, with the help of Aaron, his brother, he went forth and confronted Pharaoh concerning Israel's leaving Egypt. Pharaoh kept resisting, and eventually, through a series of miracles, he was convinced to let Israel go.

As they journeyed forth out of Egypt, God led them through means of a pillar of cloud by day and a fire by night and through the opening of the Red Sea, were delivered from their enemies.

The journey was not without difficulty but eventually, they came to the place appointed by God at Mount Sinai and here God gave Moses the 10 Commandments and established Israel as his covenant people.

The end of the book of Exodus describes the people going forth in victory under the guidance of God. Toward the end of the book, we find them erecting a Tabernacle from which they could worship God.

2. How did Israel’s slavery prepare them for their departure from Egypt?

3. When did God plan for Israel’s departure? Gen. 50:22 Exodus 3:7, 8

4.In chapter 5:23-25 why do you think it was necessary for Israel to go through more intense labor?

5. What means did God use to guide Israel in the wilderness?

6. Do you think that a person can be saved if He keeps the ten commandments? Gives reasons for or against.

7. For what purpose did God give the law. Consider these verses. (Romans 5: 29, Romans 3:19,20; Gal 2:16, Gal 2: 21, James 2:10

8. Read Chapter 36:1-7. What example do we find in the way that Israel sacrificed for God’s work to go forward? Do we find such dedication in the Christian church?
