My Secret Place – Psalm 91:1-2
Life can get hectic very quickly with everyone rushing about in a mindless manner. A soul gets weary from all the “doing”. It is so crucial to quieten your spirit and just “be”.
It is always nice to have a secret hideaway where one can rest. Children have treehouses, a favorite play area, or some secret place they run to. Where is your secret place where you go to get away from it all? I go downstairs, sit quietly, or watch a show to calm myself, all be it staring mindlessly at the TV. I may also sit there just enjoying the sound of the silence. Soaking in the quietness does marvelous things for a tired soul. A person might have many secret places where they go to get rest from all the weariness of life’s cares.
For myself, my best secret place is in the arms of a loving father. I can call on Him anytime I want; as I walk around daily, in the work place, on the bus, train, or car. There is nothing as precious as short interludes or encounters with my Father. It all takes place in my mind (chuckle, chuckle, I know what you are thinking now!). I do not wait to make time to talk to my Father because I get to do it any time I choose. It gives a totally new meaning to the term, “it is all in the mind”. I have been doing this for a very long time, and it has done wonders for me.
What is your secret place? Is it drugs, alcohol, chasing after people to love you, sex, being in a crowd but feeling lonely, rejection? I want to encourage you that, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God in Him I will trust.”
Why don’t you make the arms of a loving father your secret place and find rest for your soul, beloved.
Prayer:
Lord, help us to make you our secret place. You are our shield and hiding place. Give us the desire to seek you diligently and draw close to you daily. We thank you that your Name is a strong tower where the righteous can run to and are safe.
