Separate Sheep from Goat

Into what cup of suspicion

                shall you drown your coffee faith;

by whose prong of submission

                shall you register its creamy demise:

                                lamenting it in tannin song

                                                with bitter taste?

Sparing the tender rod,

                you spoiled the rising foam;

forgoing the greater risk,

                you spurned the greater reward:

                                casting lots with the lost

                                                and the fallen.

Political History

                A life unwatched, a life unwashed –

neither be the sign of a clean past.

                Half a body is half a soul.

He has two hands; let him not rub with one

                                and steal with the other.

She has two breasts; let her not nurse with one

                                and suffocate with the other.

                Blest be the perpetual hireling

                                over an estranged child

                scurried to the course of slow adoption.

Tarry, then,        where these packages have mailed you,

                                where parent rivers cross

                                and make sign of Christ-like peace

                for uncut valleys to come.

An Eye for an Eye

The Lord carried you;

                shall you not carry the ark?

Shall you not bear the quickening words

                                of still stone tablets?

The example is set.

‘Be holy because the Lord, your God, is holy’.

‘As I have loved you, so love ye one another’ –

                more a punishment mocking this hope:

we seem God’s evil …

                arcing only sins in borne reflection.
