It is okay to say in Jesus’ name

Sometimes when we pray, we find ourselves saying in Jesus’ name or in the name of Jesus and yes, we are right. In the bible, Jesus emphasized that when we (believers) pray to God in his name, we will receive answers. Likewise, he says that when we pray to him (Jesus) in his own name, we will still receive answers (John 14:13, 16:23-24,26, Mark 16:17b). As a result, we are correct when we pray in Jesus’ name.

However, it is the norm for most people to say in Jesus name rather than in Jesus’ name (pronounced, Jesuses). This is probably because most of us have gotten used to saying in Jesus name already. When we pray to God in Jesus name we receive answers. Likewise, when we pray to God in Jesus’ name, we are meant to receive answers. The only difference comes from how we pronounce Jesus when we pray. Saying in Jesus’ name is mere grammar. In other words, it is grammatically correct to rather say in Jesus’ name when praying because Jesus is a name that ends with the letter s. As such, just like Moses, James or Thomas, it should be pronounced as Jesuses when we mention the phrase, Jesus’ name. In addition, it should really be written as Jesus’ when ascribing the ownership of an entity to Jesus Christ our saviour. For example, Jesus’ Festival, Jesus’ Parish, Jesus’ High School, etc.

That said, saying in Jesus name when praying does not mean you are not praying in Jesus’ name. In fact, many prayers have been answered in time past when people prayed in Jesus name (rather than in Jesus’ name). Yet, it is true that many more prayers are still likely to be answered if people keep on praying that way. However, you do not need to argue it out with people that prayers ought to be said in Jesus name rather than in Jesus’ name because those who pray in Jesus’ name are actually correct. It is just tradition to want to pray in Jesus name rather than in Jesus’ name. So, for those who think they already know the reason why it is okay to say in Jesus’ name rather than in Jesus name, you are not wrong either.
