So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin. Romans 7:21-26 NIV

We are not a slave to sin, but we are a slave to the law of sin. Although we are not controlled by sin, we do live within the confines of our earthly flesh, thus being susceptible to the desires of the flesh. No matter how hard we try, there will be times when we succumb to the desires of the flesh rather than following the law of the Lord. This inner battle shall be within us as long as we are confined to our earthly flesh. The flesh has no place with, of its own, except for the fulfillment of its desires. Do not let this inner battle cause you to give up, to believe that you are a lost cause. We were all lost, but that is why Christ came. He came to save us from enslavement to sin. It is He who saves us, and not ourselves. Rest in knowing that there will be inner battles, but, your eternal destiny lies in the Lord. Do not ever give up. Christ has won the victory for you. That which you could not do, He has done. He made the ultimate sacrifice on your behalf. Remain always in Him!
