Losing Pine Needles

My parents set up our Christmas trees in front of the window that faced Green Lakes Rd (in Mycenae, New York). Mom had spread sheets under and around the trunk of each year’s trees; they served three purposes. The sheets protected the hard wood floor, provided a place for our Christmas presents and they caught the pine needles that fell from the trees.

I vaguely remember watering the Christmas trees; I do know that they required lots of water.

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper (Psalm 1:1-3 KJV).”

A dry withering Christmas tree loses its pine needles. Without the living water Jesus offered, God’s children lose blessings and spiritual fruit.

“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) (John 7:37-39 KJV).”
