If God has so helped us thus far, so help me God,  have we any reason to doubt that He will continue to help us going forward?  It is gratitude for the thus far that empowers the yet to come.  In that sense, heartfelt thanksgiving is the fuel for the future.  Remember ole Ebenezer Scrooge in Dickens' Christmas story.  His name meant "stone of help."  But he didn't live up to his name or into the meaning of his name till late in his life and at the end of the story when he indeed became a stone of practical help to Tiny Tim and his family.  If our hearts are cluttered with our own messy details and pettiness,  God cannot lay His own precious burdens upon them.  And He certainly cannot bestow those said burdens as we run by waving.  We have to be still in the Divine Presence and clear our hearts to be able to properly receive what is upon the Sacred Heart.  So help us,  God,  so help us to do just that.
