- The One Time He Asked Man and Not God He Fell Into Sin. 2Sam. 11:2-3 KJV
DISCUSSION:
1. You Need To Ask God For WISDOM (All The Time, In Everything) James 1:5 KJV. IE whether or not to do it, how to do, and when to do it. David did it.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5 KJV
2. About Everything Not Just The Things That You Are Not Wise In. Pro 3:5-8
(5) Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. (6) IN ALL THY WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM, and he shall direct thy paths. (7) BE NOT WISE IN THINE OWN EYES: fear the LORD, and depart from evil (8) It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. Pro 3:5-8 KJV
3. David Was Wise In [the ways of War “DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD” Six Times about things he was very familiar with. IE he was an expert in war. What things are you an expert in? What things are second nature to you? These are the things you can do in your sleep. It may be spiritual or it may be secular. It may be a gift or talent in music, dancing, singing, speaking, writing, or thinking, It may be as a result of your education, training, or experience. You need to ENQUIRE OF THE LORD to get HIS input.
(8) For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. (9) For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isa 55:8-9 KJV
4. You need to ENQUIRE OF THE LORD what to do, when to do it, how to do it unless you just want to do your own thing. If you don’t ENQUIRE OF THE LORD, it may mean that you are self sufficient.
DAVID ASKED 6 TIMES AND GOD ANSWERED 6 TIMES.
- 1 Sam. 23:2: “. . . DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD, . . .And the LORD said . . . .”
- 1 Sam. 23:4: “. . . DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD. . . And the LORD answered . . . .”
- 2 Sam. 2:1: “. . . DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD, . . . And the LORD said . . . .”
- 2 Sam. 5:1: “. . . DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD, . . . And the LORD said . . . . ”
- 2 Sam. 5:23: “. . . DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD, He said . . . . ”
- 2 Sam.21:1: “. . . DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD. And the LORD answered . . . .”
I think the reason why we do not enquire regularly of the Lord is perhaps we already know the answer to the question and we are not willing to obey God’s answer. SEE THE VERSES FOR YOURSELF. Like Jonah we already have our mind set. we have preconceived ideas about how things should work.
A. 1Sam. 23:2 KJV Therefore DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.
B. 1Sam. 23:4 KJV Then DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD yet again. And the LORD answered him and said, Arise, go down to Keilah; for I will deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
C. 2Sam. 2:1 KJV And it came to pass after this, that DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.
D. 2Sam. 5:19 KJV And DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
E. 2Sam. 5:23 KJV And when DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
F. 2Sam. 21:1 KJV Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and DAVID ENQUIRED OF THE LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.
III. The One Time He Asked Man And Not God He Fell Into Sin. 2Sam. 11:2-3 KJV
You may say to yourself I do not have problems with that. Well there are areas in our life that you are particularly prone to that don’t even bother someone else.
(2) And it came to pass in an evening tide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. (3) And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 2Sam. 11:2-3 KJV
