Jesus Manifests Himself in Us by Robert Schaetzle
“So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.” 1 Corinthians 3:7RSV
These words speak much to teach us to recognize whose authority we are under and why. Our coming to Jesus for new birth does not define itself as being fully equipped. Any more than a new recruit graduating from basic training is a ready-made soldier.
Putting on the uniform of ‘Christian’ is our beginning journey; learning to live by ‘faith.’ Not leaning upon one’s own human reasoning or academic experiences. Our measure of faith, God apportions to each believer increases, by trusting obedience. Learning to live each new day with hope and purpose never experienced before coming to Christ.
What we are about under God’s authority is learning to recognize His Spiritual prompting, with value to our lord’s honor. Seeking self is now past tense, that is, we’ve become ‘new creatures’ in Christ, set free from the power of darkness.
“If I say, “Let only darkness cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to thee, the night is bright as the day; for darkness is as light with thee.” Psalm 139: 11-12
These two promises tell us that when moments of concern appear as the loneliness of early morning hours, even then, God’s darkness is as light of hope and purpose leading us, when we don’t know the way.
These are the moments when Jesus manifests Himself in us, and will multiply our faith reaching out, that we learn to put our hand in His.
God manifests Himself leaning on Him, not ourself!
