Reprove to improve
“Let the righteous strike me;
It shall be a kindness.
And let him rebuke me;
It shall be as excellent oil;
Let my head not refuse it.”
Psalm 141:5 NKJV
Ignoring the wrong path taken by someone whom we know and withholding timely correction is an attitude which should not be found in us. This clearly shows how less is our love and concern for that person.
The Bible has the example of Priest Eli about whom it is said that he did not timely correct his children when they did wrong..
In 1 Samuel 3:13 the Lord said this to Samuel about Eli and his house: “For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; for his sons made themselves vile and he restrained them not.”
Eli’s sons were known for their sinful acts and dishonored the name of God as priests and were killed in a war.
As Psalms 141: 5 the verse mentioned above states that timely reproof is a blessing and in the long run will prove that ‘timely reprove actually did improve.’
So let us not neglect timely reproof and they will be thankful to us when they experience the blessedness of your constructive reproof.
