“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.” Psalm 24:1-2 (NIV)
Whether its vast oceans and forests, beautiful gardens and plains or gigantic mountain ranges, we live in an amazing world. Yet in all its natural beauty and wonder, we should never forget that our world and everything in it ultimately belongs to God. By his wisdom and power, he created this wonderful place for us to live in.
Yet with this amazing blessing comes a great responsibility. God has also given us the task of looking after his world, yet often we take this for granted without realising how our actions may be negatively impacting the environment around us. So how can we become better stewards of this amazing gift God has given us? Although many of us may not be involved in large environmental campaigns or projects, we can all find simpler ways to care for our world through what we consume. Perhaps some of us can cut down on how much electricity and water we use at home. Perhaps some of us can use products that are made from more recyclable materials or result in less pollution. Perhaps some of us can invest in buying more locally grown foods. Perhaps some of us can even put in the effort to plant small trees or volunteer to clean up rubbish in our local communities. Regardless of what actions or changes we may need to take, how we look after the world God has given us is a great way of glorifying him.
