Prophetic Types and the Bible

Sometimes prophetic people just want to prophesy. They just want to focus on the dreams and visions and prophetic words and they don’t want to (drum roll) read the Bible.

Yep, it’s true. I have met some. I have a sobering prophetic word for them. Discerning God’s direction for your life includes reading the Bible. Actually, that’s not prophetic but it is basic Godly wisdom. I don’t care what your excuse is; if you have a hard time reading then listen to the audio Bible.

It’s not about listening to another Christian’s Beth Moore teaching. That is supplementary. God’s wants some personal insight time with the written word.

There is no use running around to get a prophetic word if you rarely stick your nose in the Bible. You say it’s boring? Well, guess what? God communicates through the Bible so you might be indirectly saying that God is boring. So what is up with that?

Maybe nobody told you that scripture can jump off the page and speak to your circumstances or relationships. Maybe you choose to remain a baby Christian and will always need someone to teach you.

When I first started reading the Bible I would write a question in the white space and believe that God would answer it within the next three pages. Guess what? I got answers.

I don’t use that method any more. Instead God directs what I study – rather who I am identifying with in a particular season. He seems to point out things about that Bible character that most teachers have never taught on. I start wondering and then I start asking questions? It becomes interactive. It become intriging.

So, if reading the Bible is boring to you then you may need deliverance from some heavy duty ones. Maybe it’s Leviathan. Because Leviathan will keep you running in circles and talking in circles. Maybe it’s witchcraft and that could be generational. So, quit hiding and avoiding. Everybody has sinned and everyone is dealing with something. 

Start small and then build up to more time. But get started.

You know what’s really boring? It’s not knowing God’s will for your life and not knowing His promises. It’s depending on the big wig prophet for your answer. Guess what? If you are a prophetic vessel, be it the gift of prophesy or a prophet or a prophetic intercessor, then you will never get far by going to the prophet man or woman for confirmation or dream interpretation.

You see, the point of dream interpretation is to get you to interact. It is to get you to seek God in prayer and fasting. Your dreams have symbols and those symbols will be found within the pages of the Bible. And yes, there are a lot of confident people out there saying they have the interpretation but that’s the last route and not the first.

Do everyone in your church a favor. Read the Bible for yourself. Insecurity will have to leave you. And hanging on until the Sunday sermon will not be part of your week. You will be mature and eating some juicy steaks with a baked potato and some cooked carrots.

It’s time for some solid food. Solid food makes you SOLID.
