MINOR PROBLEMS, MAJOR HELPERS
There is no such thing as a ‘minor problem’ or ‘major problem’, a problem is a problem, period! A problem, no matter its size, can have great impacts and far reaching effects on a man’s life-both in the present and the future.
I have heard about how a pregnant woman who had complications with delivery, lost her life because her husband and the family could not raise one hundred and twenty thousand naira –N120,000.00 (about 350 US Dollars) for a Caesarian Section (CS). Do you call this a major or minor problem, when you and I are aware that one hundred and twenty thousand naira is not up to what some people spend on daily shopping? I’ve also heard about how a young brilliant boy, many years ago, lost the opportunity of furthering his studies abroad on a scholarship, just because the poor parents could not raise about five hundred naira (less than 2 US Dollar) to transport him to the city where the final interview would be held. Life happens!
A problem may appear so little, but then, if there’s no one to provide a timely help, the effect of that problem can be so enormous. I guess our concerns should not be about the size of our problems, but the size of our helpers! When a helper shows up for you at the time of a dire need, irrespective of the size of the help, that person that provides the timely help, is a Major Helper!
In my personal experience in life, God has brought many ‘Major Helpers’ my way. I remember a day I was traveling alone, and had a burst tyre in a lonely road. While trying to replace the burst tyre, I suddenly discovered that my spare tyre was not well gauged and could not help out. Night was fast approaching, and that spot was a dangerous spot. I attempted to waive down the moving vehicles for a possible help, but no one was willing to stop in that place. Meanwhile, a motor boy of a trailer that had earlier broken down on the same road, was watching me from a distance, how I was struggling and sweating. The boy, without invitation, approached me and offered to take the tyre to a vulcanizer in a neighbouring village, about four kilometres away. How could I have even known where to go fix the tyre? In less than thirty minutes the boy came back, and fixed my tyre for me.
Now, how do you describe the problem I had-a major or minor problem? How do you also describe the motor boy that helped me fix the problem-a minor or major helper? To me, that motor boy was a MAJOR HELPER! What if no one shows up to help me and night meets me there? Could you imagine the greater dangers of armed robbers and kidnappers that I would have been exposed to on that lonely and dangerous road?
Now, how do you describe the problem I had-a major or minor problem? How do you also describe the motor boy that helped me fix the problem-a minor or major helper? To me, that motor boy was a MAJOR HELPER! What if no one shows up to help me and night meets me there? Could you imagine the greater dangers of armed robbers and kidnappers that I would have been exposed to on that lonely and dangerous road?
We can’t possibly pray that we would never face difficulties or problems in life; our prayers should rather be that God will always send us people who will provide us with timely helps. Anyone that provides us a timely help, irrespective of the size of the help, is a Major Helper. May God bring Major Helpers our ways in the journey of life in Jesus’ name. Amen!
