“What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’ “‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. “Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go. “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him. Matthew 21:28-32 NIV
What did the prostitutes and tax collectors see that the leaders did not? They saw that they, of themselves were not righteous, that they fell short of that which is required by God. They saw, that, in Jesus, there is salvation, redemption. They had hearts which were willing to repent, to ask the Lord to help them in changing their lives to those who would follow in His steps. The leaders all ready knew the way to righteousness, or so they thought. They were so mistaken. They were too blind to see the need for a Savior. How could they believe that on their own merit, they would be able to stand before God and be called righteous? Nothing of ourselves would be able to get us to stand before God without being condemned. We all need salvation, and that is only available through Jesus Christ.
We are so blessed that Christ came to be the salvation we so desperately needed. He is the only way to the Father.
