The Selfless Love Of A Mother

 Mother’s Day will be here soon. It’s that special day set aside to celebrate and honor our mothers and those who have been a fine and loving example of a mother. They have shaped us in one form or another. From infancy to adulthood, we have learned valuable lessons that we will forever hold dear to our heart. My mother and grandmother were my most significant examples of love, commitment, loyalty, courage, strength, sacrifice and above all the importance of being a woman of faith. Even being diagnosed with cancer, my mother never doubted, became angry, bitter, or resentful. I witness God answer the prayers of a little girl whose desire was to see her mother build a strong relationship with God.

My grandmother was blind, but it never stopped her from serving God faithfully and raising not only her own children but several of her grandchildren and my father’s brother and sisters. So, for those whose mothers and grandmothers are no longer with you, God can bless you with a mother who will love you like God loves us.

For I, the Lord your God hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.  (Isaiah 41:13, ESV)

I often read the Bible to my grandmother. And I attended the monthly Mother’s Board Meetings with her at Antioch Baptist Church. Being under the teachings of those Mothers taught me so much about who God is. It evoked a sense of self-confidence, self-worth, and sense of belonging. I am who I am because of their example. Now, I am living out God’s plan and purpose for my life in ways I never fathomed.

Isn’t it amazing how God brings it all together in the cycle of life? He delicately made Mothers boundless in love while taking on the responsibility to care for her family. She wears many hats and serves her family, church, community, and society in ways that ministers to countless others. Some she will never know of. She selflessly put the needs of others ahead of her own. Therefore, in honor of Mother’s Day, I pray these two messages I wrote inspire you, encourage your heart, and put a smile on your face. Father, thank you for the women who serve as Mothers not only to their own children but to anyone who needs such love. May their sacrifice go unnoticed and your peace shield and protect them. May they encounter your love in ways that will leave them speechless. I pray they are blessed and crowned with your grace, appreciation, and adorned.
