Fickle or faithful?
Taking a stroll down memory lane, I recall dating and going steady. Teenage girls and boys paired off. Soon they were officially going steady; the boys gave their favorite girl their class rings. If you were one of the girls you’ll recall the varied ways of wearing the oversized rings!
Some girls wrapped adhesive tape around the rings; others might have wound colorful yarn around theirs. Many of us put the rings on chain necklaces. Both teenage girls and boys were frequently fickle; they did not go steady very long.
People of all ages tend to be fickle. Ask business owners; customers come and go. They grow tired of the same product and seek something new and improved. The innovative business owner uses different packaging or displays in hopes of gaining faithful clientele.
Is the electorate faithful or fickle? Some vote their party; yet, it seems we are fickle. In one presidential election, there seems to be a mandate for the right (or vice versa); after 4 years, the left gains control. The same applies to congressional elections. Who will we faithfully follow?
“He said, ‘This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless it is granted to him by the Father.’
From that moment many of His disciples turned back and no longer accompanied Him. Therefore Jesus said to the Twelve, ‘You don’t want to go away too, do you?’
Simon Peter answered, ‘Lord, who will we go to? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that You are the Holy One of God (John 6:65-69 HCSB)!”
