God Waited for Me

O LORD!
Time after time I have wandered:
I was a harlot, an adulterer, and a thief…
Yes, I committed some terrible crimes;
Sad, but it was all about “me.”
But You chiselled and chipped away at my heart,
A heart that was set in stone.
You hewed it into a happy place,
A place You could call “Home Sweet Home.”
Oh, how could You love a guy like me
Who sinned after being saved so vigorously?
Yup, a carnal Christian, that was me,
But You watched and waited so patiently…
My faithful Father, so noble and true,
You stood by me though I was being untrue.
You said to my soul, “I’m just not through;
“I have a purpose and a plan that’s just right for you.”
And now that I am “right” with you,
I can so clearly see
What a faithful Friend, a Friend to the end,
What a Friend You are to me!
And I will do my level best
To please my precious God;
Yes, sweet LORD, I am at Your behest.
I surrender my entire bod’.
And just as there’s nothing You won’t do for me,
That will glorify You and will edify me,
I will do anything You ask, perform any task,
Just to feel You smile at me…
