God's Cure for Mondayitis

The term “Mondayitis” is that all-consuming feeling of dread, fear or anxiety that we sometimes experience on a Monday morning when we have to face the working, school, or college week. Our hearts long to feel the euphoric freedom of the hallowed weekend. It is during these two glorious days that we can temporarily detach from the accumulated stress of the past week.

But is Mondayitis real? Is it all in the mind? Is there a cure? It is possible to see every single day as being valuable, precious and full of God-kissed opportunities? 

If we could just open our eyes to see that God has so many amazing blessings in store for us from Monday right through to Sunday, what an abundant life we would possess.

Our daily troubles can overwhelm us, block out God's voice, and hinder us from achieving His exceedingly great plans and purposes for us. But in the gospel of John, Jesus speaks to our Mondayitis.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NIV)

This scriptural gem dispels all the doubt, fear, and negativity that can so often stop us from seeing what God has for us.

Of course, trouble will come to us in all shapes and sizes, but we are encouraged that “...our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs” (2 Corinthians 4:17) anything we face on earth. 

Even though our problems can overwhelm us, it is through them, that God can display the power of Christ to those around us, who are lost, hurting and looking for hope. God has placed us where He wants us, like our workplaces, schools or colleges.

We are God's light-bearers to a world that is steeped in darkness.

As we journey through life, God seeks to reminds us that we do not have to be plagued by Mondayitis, but to rejoice that He has and will continue to overcome in all things. 

Remember the words of Jesus, “But take heart!” Note the exclamation point.

No matter what comes against us, we can be assured and totally confident in this liberating truth: Jesus Christ has already overcome the world. It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus lives in us and overcomes the world.

We have this confident hope and faith that we do not walk alone through life. Whether it be a fun-filled weekend or a dreary frustrating week, Jesus walks with us; and when we need it, He will carry us – one day at a time.

The Lord is saying to you today: Be encouraged. Take heart. Be at peace.

He is the cure for your Mondayitis.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I thank you that you have overcome the world and for your daily presence. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on you, and give me boldness so that I can encourage others around me who are struggling.
