Article Title: Appreciation

A man by the name Tom, once complained to a friend, who came visiting him at his house, “I do not have any genuine reason to be happy today”. So his friend asked, “What could your reasons be?” Tom replied; “I woke up this morning only to find myself having chronic joint aches and had barely enjoyed myself today even after taking some pain pills”. His friend then asked; “I find it rather difficult to understand or hear you talk in this manner. You mean you have no reasons to be happy, just for having aches? This shows how ungrateful you are. What would you have done if you had woken up to find your feet paralyzed, would you have killed yourself? He continued: “You had better changed your attitude towards life and be appreciative to God. My case is even more sympathetic, which no one could ever know except I tell him. I am diabetic, yet, I appreciate God’s love towards me – at least I’m alive”. Tom was touched and repented of his ingratitude. “I was real mad”, he admitted.

I’m sure the seemingly healthy look of Tom’s friend, though diabetic, is as a result of his attitude towards life – he showed appreciation to God and never worried.

The power of appreciation cannot be overruled. Like I do say: ‘Your attitude towards life, determines your altitude in life’ – all you need do is say: “Thank you” for every little thing done for you - to God and people. Even your smiles can do the wonder.
There is this African proverb which says: “A child who is thankful for a little thing done for him will surely have more done for him.”
– Get this: A thankful man is a TANKFUL man*.
Always remember this: if you don’t appreciate God’s love in your life, you will definitely depreciate in life.

Consider Jesus, who even showed appreciation to God as recorded in John 11: 41 “Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man laid: And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said; Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me”.
No wonder the Bible says in I Thess. 5:18, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you”. Also consider Ps. 92:1-2, Ps. 107:80.

So many people had at one time or the other closed doors of opportunities before them because they lacked the knowledge of how to show appreciation.
Appreciation carries an invisible but undeniable power to open doors of opportunities. Creatures like the birds show appreciation all day long chirping in melodious tones. I am sure that’s why they don’t lack - Consider Matthew 6:26 “Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” But, man, created in God’s image and likeness finds it rather difficult to do. Take for instance, the story of the ten lepers as recorded in Luke 17:11-19 who after being cleansed never bothered coming back to show appreciation to Jesus except one. It was recorded also that the only person who came back appreciating what Jesus did for him was declared HEALED while the other nine remained cleansed.

Get this: Never slam doors when leaving; you may need to pass through it some other time.

I’ll rather appreciate God’s love in my life, than depreciate in life.

* This is the writers word meaning, to have things stocked up in full for anyone who is appreciative.
