All right, you true believers, let's not think we can get away with being eccentrics or weirdos just because it says in the New Testament that we are a peculiar people. (1 Peter 2, v9)
While eccentric implies a wide divergence from the beaten track it is also cousin to impulsive or erratic. It also means off-center. Off center is not in the Holy Spirit in the sense of walking in the Spirit and being led of the Spirit. A little or a long way off, like drawing a circle within a circle, but not in the center of that larger circle. Eccentric is not concentric then. While weird may mean mysterious in an unearthly sense, it also means just plain weird! Strange on the other hand is inexplicably foreign or alien, and, yes, we are only sojourners here but there is something and Someone to be explained, though not fully.
But I have saved the best for last in that if someone or something is peculiar, it suggests a marked distinctiveness about that thing or person or circumstance. Best of all, a peculiar person in that manner is a purchased person. And a purchased person is one that belongs exclusively to another. Indeed, we are a peculiar sort of people, we have been bought with a price, the infinitely precious blood of the sacrificial Lamb of God, our Savior Yeshua, Jesus, to whom we are meant to belong...... exclusively. The life is in the blood, therefore the life of God was in that blood. (Leviticus 17, v.11) Every drop of His lifeblood was drained out when he was speared in the side. He gave his all! (John 19, v.34)
And yes, if there had been only one soul to redeem, I think it's safe to say that Yeshua would have paid that same infinitely high and precious price of His own blood for even that one soul. because that one soul would be an eternal soul as all souls are eternal. That means even one soul will go on and on forever and ever. That cannot be measured or quantified. The redemption of one eternal soul, say your own, seems to require an infinite price that only One can pay. And if even one soul requires such a high price, how much more a company of peculiarly purchased people, billions of peculiar eternal souls, belonging excusively to Him!
