Finding the help of God in times of need

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” - Hebrews‬ ‭4:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Paul links this sentence into chapter 5 by saying '...for every high priest...is ordained...(to)...offer...sacrifices....'. So priests approach the throne of grace bearinjg sacrifices. According to Hebrews 13:15, we (priests of God, as every Christian is) bear those sacrifices on our lips. So when we come to the throne of grace, our sacrifice (our confession of His Word in praise & prophecy) is what we come bearing. Bearing this sacrifice, the scripture says we obtain mercy and find grace. To obtain - Greek word 'labomen' - is to receive or accept what's given you but to find - Greek word 'heuromen' is to possess particularly after searching. This distinction is important because mercy is received upon asking but grace is found upon searching. We must however receive mercy first because mercy opens the door to grace - covering for our errors of commission and omission and securing access to grace. When mercy is accepted and grace found, we receive practical help for the needs of our lives at that moment through that grace.

This is grace is not theoretical. It is vitally important and practical. First, it brings salvation (the salvation we need in our time of need) according to Titus 2:11. Secondly, this grace is prophesied in scripture by the prophets who searched and diligently researched the salvation. Realising that the salvation would come through grace, they prophesied that grace and were reassured by God that they weren't speaking those words for themselves but for us - New Testament believers, heirs of that grace.

So in our seasons of need, we must understand that there is a grace that answers to every need by producing the salvation we desire in that need. More crucially however, that grace has been prophesied. Jesus testified that it was written concerning Him in the volume of the Book (Hebrews 10:7). If we are in this world as He is (1 John 4:17), then we must know that the volume of the Book has the grace that should come to us (which has now come to us) written in prophecy. The Bible has a prophecy of grace and salvation for every need of every Christian soul today. Some of us weep in our needs because we haven't found this grace. Some of us do not even know that the Holy Spirit has spoken prophetically about our situation in the eternal wisdom of God. So if you're weeping today because of a need that looks hopeless, hear what the Scripture says - 'weep not: behold the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof (Revelations 5:5). The Book is no more closed. Jesus has opened it. Go to Him in prayer, bearing the confession of His word as you know it in praise and prophecy. You'll receive mercy and as you search the scriptures, He'll show you the thing that was prophesied concerning your situation. When you find the grace prophesied, you'll experience the salvation of that grace. That's the reason He asked us to come to His throne of grace.

Again though, I emphasise that this grace must be 'found', not just 'received'. The honour of kings is to search out a concealed matter (Proverbs 25:2). The seal of the book has been loosed and the Book opened, but the grace it contains is concealed and only the Lion of the tribe of Juda can show where the grace for that specific need is prophesied. And He will show us if we diligently search in prayer though the confession of our lips bearing praise and prophetic declarations of His finished works as we know it. After all, the light of the knowledge of the glory of God is only found in the countenance of Jesus Christ.
