Enjoy This Day

“Today is the oldest you’ve ever been, yet the youngest you’ll ever be – so enjoy this day while it lasts.” I don’t know who came up with this saying, but as my two-year old granddaughter would say, “I like it.”

 There can often be more things to accomplish and complete in a day than you really want to handle. There can be more tasks and chores than you really want to think about. Life can be and often is stressful. But ignoring what’s on your plate or what’s on the agenda doesn’t cause the tasks to go away. Neither does it change your responsibility to roll up your sleeves, dig in, and get it done.

 The most important thing I’ve learned about completing a “to-do” list is to remember that I’m blessed to have life, health, and strength to do the task at hand and I need to enjoy having those blessings each and every day. Appreciating the blessings gives me the fuel and energy to get the job done and the commitment and dedication to get it done right.

 Certainly, this day (and every day) is so valuable. Life is short and we should be grateful for every opportunity to do something good for someone else. There is a joy in knowing you’ve done something to make a difference and have a positive influence in someone’s life. There’s even a greater joy in realizing that you have gained and become a better individual by making the best of all situations. That’s why I believe you can never help someone without helping yourself in the process. There is always something good for you in it.

 I encourage you, as you go through today’s (and every day’s) tasks and responsibilities, to take the time to enjoy life, appreciate the small things, do something to help others without expecting something in return, and remember there are always others who are less fortunate. I challenge and encourage you to think on the good things as you live this day and every day our Creator has given. Remember “today is the oldest you’ve ever been, yet the youngest you’ll ever be – so enjoy this day while it last.”
