WE MUST THINK OUTSDE THE BOX

Isaiah 43:10-13 "You are my witnesses," declares the Lord, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am He. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.  I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from Me there is no savior.  I have revealed and saved and proclaimed - I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses," declares the Lord, "that I am God. Yes, and from ancient days I am He. No one can deliver out of My hand. When I act, who can reverse it?" (NIV)

Do you remember the first time you heard the old adage 'Thinking outside the box'?  I surely remember, how can I ever forget? It happened several years ago, when our new department manager was appointed.

By the very character of human nature, rumors began to fly hot and heavy around the office, both pro and con. Then came the moment of his arrival. For some unknown reason, I just sensed from his very presence, we were going to be OK.

Then it happened, that all important initial staff meeting. At the beginning, you could cut the tension with a knife, but as he began to speak, the atmosphere began to positively change. The first words he spoke, after the customary greeting was, "A new day is upon us, ladies and gentlemen. It's time we all garnered a new attitude. We must all think outside the box.  In other words, we must use our imaginations. We must move forward with new ideas, by putting on our thinking caps," and away he went outlining his agenda."

"Wow, he should have been a preacher," I thought.

Now, back to the subject at hand; how does this phrase "thinking outside the box, pertain to the Christian world? How does it relate to us who have put our faith in God? Wow, that's it! It's all about faith. Thank you Lord. Amen! (Hebrews 11:1, 6)

For you see, faith just happens to cross all aspects of our lives, secular and spiritual alike.     

Do you remember playing the game of catch, when your father would put you up on the table, hold out his hands and simply say, "Jump, I'll catch you"?  Yes, our entire lives are based on faith, in one form or another, from our rising in the morning to our retiring any night. I can't imagine any of life's movements that don't require faith in some fashion or another. The difference being, for us believers, the all-important task is to please our Heavenly Father in all that we do and say.  

So how about it, fellow Christian believer, are you thinking outside of the box and have you stepped outside of your box in faith?  Have you stepped out of your comfort zone into a sin-sick  world that is hurting, a world in desperate need of a Savior?  A world that needs help, literally from the sublime to the ridiculous. Yes, by stepping outside the box, by thinking outside the box, we have the opportunity of obeying God's word. There is an opportunity to enter a mission field that is wide open, and in dire need of dedicated workers. (John 4:35)    

So as believers we are commanded to think outside of the box. And in doing so, there are three main words or expressions that are vital to our thinking outside of the box.

Prayer! By prayer we talk with God. (I Thess. 5:16-19) Bible! By studying the Bible God talks with us. (II Timothy 3:16-17)  Witnessing!  By witnessing we talk for God. (I Peter 3:15)

All of course, are a part of our spiritual thinking outside of our sacred box. So now, how are you really doing, respecting this expression of "thinking outside the box"?  Are you thinking outside the box? If, so how's it working for you? You are not alone as you have the help and promises given in God's holy word. (Matthew 28:18-20) (Acts 1:8) Amen !
