Psalm 95 urges us to worship God because we are "the people of his pasture" implying thus that God is our shepherd (as Jesus is the good shepherd described in the gospel of John chapter 10) and because we are the sheep "of His hand" or, alternately translated,  the sheep "under His care."
  Middle Eastern shepherds would run their hands through the wool of the individual sheep to determine if there were any sore spots or injuries, or infestations, or other irregularities.  Hence they were the sheep "of his hand" just as God examines us daily as we come to Him and draw near, running His fingers through every nook and cranny of our souls as we permit and invite Him to do so, (there is nothing about us that we can hide from Him anyway) and evaluating our inner attitudes and motives.  We are under His care just as one is under the care of a physician,  in this case the Great Physician.  Yes,  we still have doctors who treat us, they are only His under-physicians, even as the pastors who guide us and feed us spiritually are only His under-shepherds, hopefully taking their orders and leading from the  Good Shepherd over all shepherds and all sheep.  And as has been correctly pointed out, every shepherd is first of all a sheep, as every physician is first of all a patient of the Great Physician and head of and over all physicians, Jesus the Messiah.
