Forgiving Yourself

God is the creator; the first and the last; the only holy, righteous, all powerful judge - there is no other like Him. When a sinner comes to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and receives forgiveness, he is made holy; placed in right standing before the just judge. There will be no condemnation for the forgiven…Why?...because the price for their sin has been paid for with an ugly, demeaning, torturous death on a cross by Jesus, who willingly gave his life as a substitute, so the believer doesn’t have to. Now, there may be consequences for bad choices made, in the here and now, but God promises not to hold your sins against you…they have been cast “as far is the East is from the West (Psalm 103:12)”.

So, do you have a hard time letting go of the sorrow you feel for past transgressions? By not forgiving yourself, are you not exalting yourself as the supreme judge? What a high perch you sit on when you place yourself above the throne of the King of Kings. If God himself has forgiven, who are you to keep hanging on to regret? “…Does a clay pot argue with its maker (Isa 45:9)?” Carrying around regret and remorse is like trudging through life with a bowling ball around your neck 24hrs a day. After a while it impedes your walk. You cannot be as useful carrying around this burden as you would be without it. Remember this Christian friend: you are not who you use to be. You have been changed; cleansed from the inside out. The thought that you cannot forgive yourself is a lie from Satan’s pit. You have been pardoned from your sin; you have been redeemed!  “Now go and sin no more (John 8:11).”
