It is telling that the Spanish word for worry, or at least one of the main ones, is the word from which we get the English word "preoccupation."  It refers literally to a space that is occupied or filled prematurely, meaning it is filled with something prior to the time it ought to have been filled, and beyond that it is filled with that content with which it wasn't designed or intended to be filled.  Worry seen in that light is a rush or haste to fill an emptiness that is better or more healthily left empty for the time being.  Through that emptiness one can remain present to the current moment and more aware of what or who is at hand.  Preoccupation or worry then, is stolen space.  Something has been allowed to intrude into a place in our hearts and minds where it does not belong and has no right to be.  It is a case of trespassing occurring in the realm of the soul. What's more attention has been at least temporarily stolen from is due and proper object.

"Have no anxiety about anything but in everything with prayer and thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God......"   (Phillipians 4 v.6,7 of New Testament)
