Out of the light came a King and his only son, the Prince. Because of the intense brightness of the light, no one, would have ever been able to tell you how magnificent they looked or what they were wearing. It must have been glorious, because it would have appeared that all the light radiated from them.

They came with the purpose of building a Kingdom. One that could never be compared to anything that anyone would ever see made again. This was the Kingdom of all kingdoms and it would be the first and the last. Building this Kingdom would be very rewarding and they were looking forward to its completion.

When at last they saw the completion of their Kingdom, the King and the Prince made a beautiful garden out of the dirt of the ground. They planted all sorts of flowers and put animals in the garden. The flowers bore fruit and provided food for the animals. The King and the Prince had made this garden for a resting place for themselves. This was to be the garden where they could rest after all of their hard work and enjoy the fruits of their labor. The Prince would stay in the garden and care for it. Since the King would return Home, they knew that the garden would be a lonely place for the Prince and it would be better for him if he had a helper, so they put a servant into the garden. The King gave his son complete authority over this garden.

When the servant was put into the garden, The Prince explained to the servant that the plants would provide all the food for the animals and the servant. The animals belonged to the King and the Prince, and were never to be harmed. This garden was meant to be a place where everything depended on the Prince and without his guidance, the garden would fail. The servant was to care for all things in the garden equally, and if he had any questions, he was to ask first. Because the King and the Prince had made this garden, they were the only ones that truly knew this garden and it’s every need. The Prince gave him one rule that was to always be followed, no matter what. “There is one rule you must follow. I am to be the only one that decides what happens in this garden. You must ask first before you do anything to this garden, because the King and I are the only ones that always know what this garden needs. If you break this one rule, you must leave this garden.”

Each year, the garden was growing larger and the Prince knew that the garden was ready for lots of helpers, so the Prince decided to give the servant a wife. Then they could have children and as the garden got bigger, so would the servant’s family and then there would be plenty of servants to tend the garden.

At first the servant and his wife were so busy learning about the garden and all of it wonders, that they had little time to think about anything else. It was quite an adventure and they were truly happy.

As time passed, it became apparent that if things were not managed, that the garden would suffer. Some of the animals were beginning to eat all the flowers off of a certain plant. If this were allowed to continue, that plant could not produce offspring and would not continue to spread in the garden. The servant and his wife became very protective of this plant and started spending more and more time with this plant. They started to wonder why this plant, above all the other plants, was the animal’s favorite. The fruit was not very special, but the flowers had such a beautiful texture, smell, and taste. The colors were magnificent. Each rose on each plant was so different and so strikingly beautiful. When each rose was covered with the morning dew, it was truly hard to resist.

After spending so much time and having so much concern for this plant, the servant’s wife began to grow attached to the roses. The servant started caring for the roses, more than for the other flowers, just to please his wife. Instead of just protecting the rose, they were letting it take over the garden. They remembered that they were to ask before they made any decisions that would affect the garden, but they were so sure that they had made the right decision, that they ignored the one rule that the Prince had given them.

Now the garden was soon getting out of control. They started with the intention of protecting a plant, but now they were protecting it at the cost, to the rest of the garden. They knew that if they didn’t do something, the garden would be ruined.

But the smell was so beautiful and the colors were so amazing, that the man and his wife could not resist these flowers. Because the man and his wife could not resist the roses, they continued to care for the roses and give little attention to the other plants and the animals. The roses were still overtaking the garden even more and there was now less and less room for the other more productive fruit bearing flowers. The other flowers began to produce less, so there was less and less food for the servants and the animals. The animals were now hungry all the time and were not very happy.

Because they had been put in charge of caring for the garden, the servants now considered themselves more important than the animals and decided that they should be fed first and if there was anything left, it could go to the animals. They figured that without servants, who would help care for the garden?

So things just got worse and worse. With less food, some of the animals decided not to bear young, so they wouldn’t go hungry. Other animals bore more young, so they could take over the food and have more control over it. Still other animals stole as much food as they could find and hid it in places. Sometimes they would share this with others, other times they would just keep it hidden in case things really got desperate.

The servant and his wife were now in the middle of a war over food. At one time the food was plentiful, but now they were going without food some of the time. They were sorry for the mess they made and they were ashamed of themselves. They had disobeyed the Prince and were now seeing the consequences of this action. This shame turned to fear and so they decided to hide from the Prince.


The King and the Prince were prepared for this day. They knew this day would come, so they had already made a plan how they would fix this situation. They needed their servants to be obedient and they knew that their servants must learn some valuable lessons before they would truly be faithful and obedient to their Lords. The servants needed to figure out for themselves that no one was wiser than the King and the Prince. It is the way that things were and would always be.

The Prince went into the garden to look for the servant and his wife. When he found them, he asked if everything was going well in the garden. The servants were afraid that the Prince might be upset with them, because they had not asked him first about the rose bushes. They had made their own decision of how best to take care of the situation. So they told him, that everything was fine. He then asked them why they were hiding their eyes from him. Knowing that they could not hide the truth from the Prince, they explained why they did what they had done. The Prince then explained to them, that he knew this plant would be favored by the animals and if they had just asked him, he would have told them that when the branches break off of this plant and fall into the ground, a new plant would form. Their seeds were not necessary for reproduction. If they had just left them alone, everything would have worked out.

Because the Prince could no longer trust his servants to obey his commands, he told them that he would have to send them away.

It was time now to put everything into the next garden. This was the garden that could survive without a servant. Everything would live and die and all things would be interwoven with each other and would be completely under the care of the Prince. No longer would the garden prosper under the care of the servants.

The rose bushes would now have thorns. They would still bear beautiful flowers, but would also produce pain when touched. The servants would no longer be needed to protect and care for the roses, they would be able to protect themselves and if the flowers were eaten, they would still be able to generate new plants without their flowers. The animals would die and bear young according to the food that was available. If there was little food, then the animals would bear few young and the strongest would live, while the weak would die and provide food for the next generation of plants and food. All things would live and die and then pass on what they had to the next generation.

Also, if anything ever considered itself more important than anything else, the other creatures would know that, even though they might have to put up with it for awhile, soon it would die and be replaced with something new. It would also be known, that each part of this garden only had a short time, before it would turn back to the dirt from which it came and that when it died or disintegrated, it could not take any part of this garden with it. This would be the garden, that all creation could learn, that nothing is as important as caring for one another. And the only way to care for one another is to accept that all things belong to the King and the Prince and nothing will be given, unless one goes to them and asks for it. If anyone refuses to accept this, then they will not be considered for the final garden.


Morals of this story:

It may seem to us, that we can manage on our own, but that is not the way that God made His creation. God made all things to be dependent on Him and His Son. Because He and His Son made all things, then all things belong to Them and They are the only One, that has the Love and Wisdom that can make all things work in complete Peace and Harmony. If we can realize this faith in God, then obedience will follow, and then unconditional Love will be made complete in all things.

We must also accept the fact that, creation was made for the Creator, not for the creation.

And a final note, evil does not come from good, it comes from disobedience. And disobedience comes from pride.
