While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.” Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples. When Jesus entered the synagogue leader’s house and saw the noisy crowd and people playing pipes, he said, “Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep.” But they laughed at him. After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up. News of this spread through all that region. Matthew 9:18-19 and 23-26 NIV

Mark’s gospel tells us the synagogue leaders name was Jairus. It also said that the little girl was dying. I don’t find a contradiction here, as the girl was dead when Jesus arrived at the house of the leader.

What faith this leader had. This may have been the first of the three people who Jesus raised from death (the widow’s son and Lazarus being the other two). Jesus had performed many miracles for people to see, but, now we cross to the totally inexplicable. Inexplicable except for belief in God, and His Son Jesus Christ. Jairus’ faith is wonderful to behold.

Is our faith in Christ as immense as that of Jairus? Do we believe that Christ can change situations for us that seem impossible to fix? If we truly trust our Lord, all will be worked out for the best for each of us. Believe it! Rest in Him!
