“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:10 NIV

Notice here that the blessing does not come just for being persecuted. It must be persecution associated with righteousness.

The owner of a heart which has been given to the Lord seeks after that which is righteous. This is so as we wish to be like our Lord, who is righteous. Our Lord was persecuted. We cannot expect to avoid some form of persecution. It might be passive, as being ignored by some who were our “friends”, or it might be strong persecution, such as execution. What ever the form, we must not back down from that which our Lord asks us to do.

We have a true blessing for facing persecution for the sake of righteousness. The kingdom of heaven belongs to us. We live know with God residing within us, and we shall inherit a place in heaven upon leaving this earth. Persecution shall not last forever, but, the blessing we shall receive is eternal. Do not forfeit an eternal blessing to avoid righteous persecution. The Lord shall be with you through it all!
