The first day is the most wonderful among the six days of creation. This is why I call it the glorious morning.

Light came into the dark, formless and empty world on the first day. This was the most amazing thing that happened to creation. After an indefinite period of darkness had passed, light shone across the dark sky illuminating our world and injecting a new spirit into the soul of creation¹. This light represents hope, joy, peace, wisdom, righteousness and justice in a world once ruled by darkness.

The morning of creation was so glorious because of the many generations of waiting that preceded it. The world was dark from the timeless past. The entire creation languished in hopelessness, gloom, decay, confusion, suffering, pain and ignorance. Life was meaningless; in fact there was no life. Then suddenly, everything changed; Light pierced through the dark world birthing a new reality.

The joy that enveloped creation in the beginning when the light beamed cannot be quantified. Everything literally came to life. The formless world was transformed, as every element in the initial clutter found their rightful place. No one would have imagined that the world could be so fertile until light came. The dark waters, which was once a dead sea, brought forth living creatures² and the waste lands produced vegetation³ and all kinds of animals⁴. This glorious morning ended the long period of confusion, gloom and decay.

The morning of creation illustrates three events. These are the most important events in creation. Interestingly, all three of them speak about Christ’s glorious entrance into the world at different times.

The first glorious entrance of Christ was when God’s word brought light into the world in the beginning¹; the second glorious entrance was the incarnation when He took on flesh and was born into the world by the Virgin Mary⁵; and the third glorious entrance is when He shall return again⁶. These three triumphant entries are codified in Moses’ account of the first day of creation.

Moses’ account of the first day was a prophecy about the birth of Jesus Christ. He is the light of the universe which all creatures had been waiting for because the world was in darkness throughout the Old Testament until His arrival⁷. All men continued in darkness and life was all meaningless; the people languished under the grip of sin, death, pain and suffering as the world was dominated by the forces of evil.

During the Old Testament era, God spoke through the prophets about a great hope which is the coming of light. The greatest among these prophets was Moses. His ministry illustrated the importance of a savior and he gave signs that would indicate the coming of the Messiah. The fathers, armed with this prophecies, waited from one generation to the next checking the sky of their time for a sign of His arrival. But they all died- all of them still waiting.

After many generations had passed and all the patriarchs were gone to the world beyond, a sign appeared in the sky. A child had been born into the world. The long years of waiting made it almost unbelievable. All that the world had been waiting for came from the most unlikely city, at an unexpected moment, through the least expected family and at a manger- an unusual birthplace for the Messiah⁸.

Wise men from a distant land saw the sign that a great king had been born and they journeyed three days in search of Him. As news of His birth was given to them, joy erupted in the heavens with millions of angels celebrating His arrival. They eventually found Him in Mary’s arms amidst the bleating sheep.

There is no day as glorious as the morning of incarnation when light came into our dark world through the virgin birth. Prophets spoke about this event and the whole creation waited eagerly to see Him⁹. Generations of faithful believers anticipated His coming in their time¹⁰. Today, the world is awaiting His return the same way the patriarchs did. 

The long period of waiting is a common denominator of the glorious morning. Hence, it is not strange that Jesus has not returned after 2,000 years have passed. Certainly, He will come again; this time, in the most glorious way and the joy of creation will know no bounds.

For more understanding of the morning of creation, let us journey back to the first day in the creation story¹¹. Unlike other days of creation, the works of this day have no physical form. This means that even if we were present at the scene of the first day creation work, our physical eyes would not capture any occurrence. Events that took place in the morning of creation were spiritual. They had nothing to do with what we see physically anywhere around us on earth. 

The light and darkness of the first day were not the type that the eyes could observe. Similarly, the day and night in this account were not the same as those caused by the rising of the sun or moon. In fact, the sun, moon and stars were created on the fourth day¹². Here, in the morning of creation, God was telling us about a different kind of light and of course, a different kind of darkness.

Even though we may not see the works of the first day, everything God did in it are real. The Light of creation is our Lord Jesus Christ.  He came into the world in the beginning as the Word of God whose form the natural eyes could not see. He was there at the foundation of creation and it was through Him that God formed everything. This is obvious in the creation story because nothing was made until God spoke. In confirmation of this truth, John in the gospels showed us that Christ is that Word of God¹³.

Jesus is the Light of the first day. But what exactly are the day and night mentioned in this account? Here, God was talking to us about kingdoms. The Day was the kingdom of light which came into the world while the Night represented the kingdom of darkness domiciled in it. The account of the first day states that God separated them immediately. Invariably, these two kingdoms with dissimilar and conflicting qualities had to go their separate ways when light came into the world¹¹.

The separation of kingdoms made the morning of creation exceptional. Each time Jesus came into the world, the first thing He did was separate kingdoms. He did this in the beginning on the first day of creation when He appeared as the light of creation¹¹. It was part of His mission on earth when He came to save mankind¹⁴. Similarly, at the end of the world, He shall appear once again to separate kingdoms¹⁵.

On the glorious morning of creation, God separated the kingdom of light from the kingdom of darkness. Even though no eyes could observe this wonderful event, it was as real as other creation works. John the beloved hinted us in the book of Revelation that God had already made a distinction between the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light from the foundation of the world. He showed us that some people’s names were already written in the Lamb’s book of life from the beginning and there were some that were not¹⁶. This statement confirms the fact that the separation of kingdoms in the beginning was real. These kingdoms have been in existence and separate from one another from the foundation of the world. He knew those who were His own and those who were not His from the foundation of the world.

The separation of kingdoms was also the major theme of Jesus’ ministry when He came into the world about 2,000 years ago. John the Baptist described Him as the one who shall separate the wheat from the chaff¹⁴. Jesus eventually dismembered the old kingdom of laws and established a new kingdom exclusively meant for God and His saints¹⁷. While teaching the disciples and Jews, most of His parables were about separation of men into two distinct categories- the kingdom of light and darkness¹⁸.

The separation of Kingdoms is also the major theme of Jesus’ second coming. On that glorious morning of His return, Christ shall appear with ten thousands of His saints and holy angels to harvest His saints from among the world. On that great day, the world will be split into two separate categories. The faithful shall be on His right side while the unfaithful shall be on His left. It will be a day of sorrow for the world but a day of immeasurable joy for all saints¹⁹.

Correct interpretation of the first morning of creation helps us to understand the other two mornings. This is because they all have similar attributes. An obvious similarity is the many years of waiting that preceded them. This is what is happening now. Many centuries have passed since Jesus ascended up into heaven and promised to return. The world is waiting earnestly for Him today the same way it awaited His birth.

Just as He was born into the world after many generations of anticipation, He will return again at the appointed time. It is over 2,000 years already but He shall definitely return again when everyone least expects, just like the other glorious mornings of creation.

The stage is set for the manifestation of the glorious morning of Jesus’ second coming. The Lord is pouring down His Spirit on all men and the knowledge of God is spreading all over the world like waters on the sea²⁰. Something great is about to happen. The righteous should rejoice with sobriety of heart while the wicked should be wary and repent because God is about to carry out the great separation. There will be no excuses for rejecting the light of the gospel and the great evidences that shall accompany it in these last days. No one will say on that day that he did not understand²¹.

Quite a number of things were not clear in the Old Testament but Jesus came to make the knowledge of God plain. He has revealed the Father’s will in different ways to mankind²².

The work of the first day of creation is prophecy in its perfect form. The words written in it were true at the beginning of the world; true now and will be true eternally. The glorious morning manifested in the beginning; it manifested again at the birth of Jesus and it shall manifest one more time at the second coming of Christ. This event will be one of the most glorious events ever witnessed by mankind and the entire creation²³.

Moses showed us the morning of creation in the account of the beginning; the gospels told us about the birth of Jesus Christ. But no one will tell us about the morning of the second coming- we will all see it²⁴. It will neither be a parable nor vision but a tangible manifestation of the things that all generations of prophets anticipated. The joy will be inexplicable!

Nothing has been more wonderful than the morning of creation in the beginning and the Christmas of glorious incarnation. But the most glorious morning is yet to come. This is the joyful beginning that shall usher all saints into eternal bliss.

The appearance of the morning of Christ’s return means that we will see God and His Word as well as the kingdom of light and darkness in their tangible forms. No one will need to teach us to know God because we shall see Him the way He is²⁵. At that glorious morning, life as it is known here on earth will be no more. Darkness will be separated forever from light. There will be no more night, sorrow or pain. All the troubles of this world will be no more as God will wipe away all tears and make all things perfect for all eternity²⁶.
