but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. James 1:14-15 NIV
We are led into temptation through evil desire. Yes, even we Christians are led into evil desires. These evil desires come from within us. Don’t fret. This is why Christ went to Calvary on our behalf. God is pleased with the broken, humble, contrite heart, the one that knows that it cannot survive without the salvation provided by Jesus Christ.
An evil desire leads to an enticement. After the desire has been conceived in the heart, it then gives birth to sin. Now comes the critical point. Does the one who has sin feel remorse, and a sense of the lacking of Christ with them. Is the person willing to humble themselves, and approach Christ in prayer, humbly asking for forgiveness and restoration? This is the path taken by a Christian. On the other hand, an unbeliever will continue in their sinful way, becoming a slave to sin. This leads to a spiritual death for this person. The lack of remorse and humility shows a person who feels no need for God in their life. Do not be one who takes this later route. Doom and destruction are all that lie ahead. Our Lord died for our sins. When you succumb, go to Him humbly, asking to be united again. Ask for cleansing from your sins. Belong to Him.

Another good article with a good reminder and encouragement.
It's good to know that Jesus will give us a way out when we are tempted. The world, as you point out, has no need to confess sin and continues sinning, on a destructive route. This is why, as I've pointed out, that the war on drug abuse is being lost. Druggies don't want to own up to what they are doing is wrong and they don't go to God for forgiveness and help to stop sinning. The same goes for alcohol abuse and other sins. I'm living with a guy who has a problem with alcohol. He says he's saved but keeps making excuses for his behavior and for not going to Celebrate Recovery with me. He says he isn't for sanctification, but I think I started to reach him. He said that maybe I'm right and that he doesn't really know what sanctification is.
I've tried to explain sanctification to him. By the way, according to Biblical Counseling founder Jay E Adams, Christians have problems when sanctification stalls or stops.
