Lord, hold my hand; the way is dark before me;
Shadows obscure the pathway I must tread.
Yet, if Thou, Lord, will walk this road beside me,
All shall be bright, and nothing I shall dread.

Guide Thou my feet; the valley lies before me;
Jordan's deep billows roll across my way.
Yet, Thou, dear Lord, didst pass its waves before me,
And if Thou lead, my footsteps cannot stray.

Keep Thou my heart, lest it should fail before Thee;
Lest I should faint and turn from Thee aside.
Yet, with my all held safely in Thy keeping,
I shall not fall, if Thou wilt be my Guide.

Then with Thee, Lord, I'll walk the lonely valley,
Or in Thy footsteps climb the mountain's height.
Then when my journey ends at last in heaven,
Tears shall be dried, and faith be lost in sight.
