WEAPONS OF MASS TRIUMPH

Introduction

We live in a world rife with weapons of mass destruction, whereby the country with the superior arsenal, ammunition, or fireworks triumphs over the weaker nation. In the spirit realm, this truth is not far-fetched. Praise and Worship mean different things to different people. To most people “Praise” is a fast-paced rendition to God where we clap our hands, sing, and dance to God. To others, “Worship” is a slow-tempo rendition to God, where we lift up holy hands, close our eyes as we enter into another realm of glory. These are not far from the truth. However, because of the realities of the spirit realm and the constant need for success and victory in life, this article can also be titled: Praise and Worship as Weapons of Mass Triumph.

Realities of the Spirit Realm

1)      2 Corinthians 10:3-6 indicates that our weapons are not material or physical, even though we walk in the flesh. We don’t fight a life rife with spiritual battles with physical weapons. The physical realm is governed by the spiritual. We continually need God’s help in the use of these immaterial, intangible, or spiritual weapons to pull down spiritual, mental, emotional strongholds, imaginations, and every lofty thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God as revealed in the Bible, bringing to submission every thought to the obedience of Christ.

2)      Ephesians 2:2 reveals the old and current times in which we walked according to the ways of the world, according to the prince of the power of the air; according to the spirit that works in the children of disobedience. The devil works through the air by broadcasting wrong attitudes, moods, and negative feelings of sorrow, listlessness, hopelessness, etc.

These are the realities we face as Christians, and I’m about to show you how we can wage Praise and Worship as Weapons of Mass Triumph in life.

Scenarios of Praise and Worship in the Scriptures

Just a few scenarios will serve this purpose:

• Jehoshaphat’s Triumph of Praise

There was a mighty multitude of Moabites and Ammonites combined, hurtling to come, and do battle with Jehoshaphat’s army in Judah. Jehoshaphat trembled at the sound of these hordes of soldiers coming to invade the land. Thankfully, he did the right thing by seeking the Lord and declaring a fast throughout the land. During this spiritual exercise, the Spirit of the Lord fell upon a man whom the Lord chose to pass across the message for the moment. The message was soothing and at the same time instructive. The inhabitants of Judah were comforted with the knowledge that the battle belonged to God, and that they were supposed to conduct an intensive ministration of songs and praises to the Eternal as they went to battle with the invading armies. To the physically-minded individual, this wouldn’t have made an iota of sense; but to the spiritually-minded Christian, this approach was the only way of escape from an impending doom and captivity. The Almighty God caused a confusion in their camps, and by the time Jehoshaphat and his army of singers and worshippers arrived at the battleground, the enemies had been slain already for them, everyone helping to destroy another (2 Chronicles 20: 1-4, 14-15, 21-24).

• Fall of the Walls of Jericho

Now there was no thoroughfare for the children of Israel to pass through into Jericho because the gates into the city were securely shut up to deter them from entering the land to possess it. Because of this, the Lord gave Joshua a set of instructions, affirming that He had given the city, its king, and its mighty men of valour into his hand, and instructing Joshua and his men to march around the city once for six consecutive days, with seven priests bearing seven trumpets of a specification before the ark of the covenant of God. On the seventh day, he was instructed to direct his men to march around the city seven times, and blow the trumpets seven times, and thereafter the people shall shout with a great shout of triumph, and then the walls of the city shall fall flat. These were precise instructions given by God to achieve exactly what Joshua hoped for. Joshua and his men swung into action, and followed the instructions according to specification. It wasn’t clear what they eventually shouted, but I believe they shouted chants of “Hallelujah” – a praise and worship terminology; achieving the desired outcomes of triumph and advancement (Joshua 6: 1-5, 20-21).

• Paul and Silas Freed from Prison

Paul, after being grieved to the spirit, exorcised a certain slave girl of an evil spirit who divined the future and brought much profit to her masters. When these men saw that their means of fortune-telling was gone, they laid a railing accusation against Paul and Silas, and dragged them to the authorities, saying these men greatly troubled the city, teaching customs that were contrary to the Roman tradition at the time (a huge setup that was). Paul and Silas were brutally beaten with rods and lashes, and thrown into the maximum-security prisons by the chief jailer. At midnight, Paul and Silas began to pray and sing hymns to God as the other prisoners listened. Suddenly, there was a mighty earthquake that shook the prisons to the foundations, leaving prison doors open and shattering all the prisoners’ chains. This eventually led to their release (Acts 16: 16-26).

Triumphs of Praise and Worship

The Oxford Dictionary defines Triumph as a great victory or achievement against all odds; a state of being victorious or successful; a sense of joy or satisfaction resulting from a success or victory. Praise and Worship enable the Christian to enjoy the following benefits:

1)      Rescuing from enemies (Psalms 18:3; 2 Samuel 22:4)

2)      Shaming of the enemies (Colossians 2:15)

3)      Dominion over enemies (Genesis 49:8; Psalms 18:40)

4)      Oil of Gladness (Isaiah 61:3; Psalm 147:1-3)

5)      Divine Direction (Isaiah 30: 29-30)

6)      The Manifest Glory of God. If you want to bring down the glory of God, PRAISE HIM! (Psalms

         67:6)

7)      A Miraculous Lifestyle (Deuteronomy 10:21).

How then should we Praise God?

1)      Praise and Worship should be done in spirit and truth. Praise and Worship should be conducted with reverence [in spirit] and sincerity of heart and whole heartedness [in truth] (John 4:23; Psalms 9:1).

2)      Praise and Worship should be preceded with thanksgiving and joy (Psalms 100:4; 98:4).

3)      Praise Him for His wondrous and miraculous acts – previous and expected ones (Psalms 150:2).

4)      Praise Him with instruments; and that includes your voice (Psalms 150: 3-5).

5)      Cultivate a lifestyle of Praise and Worship; by rendering a continual sacrifice of praise and Worship to God. Praise and Worship are like fish and chips in the same plate that produces a sweet-smelling savour to God (Hebrews 13:15; Psalms34:1).
