The Penalty of Revelation and The Season We Are In

ROMANS 1:18-19 (in part) The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, ¹⁹ since what may be known about God is plain to them. (To Fully Understand this article please fully read Romans 1:18-32)

As God reveals his loving and merciful nature to the people of the earth the impurity of people will increase. This is because even in the light of God's existance man will usually serve himself and not God. So serving creation when the creator has been revealed to you brings corruption. It also brings widespead acceptance of that corruption.Because this is so clearly spelled out in God’s word its conclusions are undeniable. As the coming of Christ approaches homosexuality will have to increase. The amazing thing is that Romans 1:32 predicts that these things will be accepted and even gain approval from society. The Bible’s undeniable truth surrounds us today.What was always understood to be a bad is now described in positive terms. So people are being penalized by God but calling it a reward.

Throughout most of history Homosexuality was frowned upon and shunned as sin. Now declaring yourself publicly as a homosexual is seen as a marvelous act of bravery. Homosexuals are described publicly as special brave heroes. If you embrace its practice you are accepted if you reject them as wrong you are persecuted.

The book of Revelation is in large measure is about God showing (revealing manifesting) Himself to mankind in more and more powerful ways. But as man rejects these revelations he is penalized in like measure. Example as the seals were broken from the scroll bad things started happening to the earth.

REVELATION 6:3 ³ When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” ⁴ Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword.

A seal being broken on a scroll allows people to read and understand it’s contents more clearly. As the people of the earth are shown God’s plan and His nature they are more harshly dealt with if they reject Him.

This is a powerful principle that should be applied to today’s explosion of homosexuality. Most people say that homosexuality has not increased but simply is more visible. I disagree I believe we are seeing a true increase probably even an explosion of homosexuality.

But what is the spiritual nature of Homosexuality? How does it come to manifest itself in a society?To understand this we let’s take a look to the disease Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. (I am not writing of its relationship to homosexuality only using it as an example) When the deadly virus attacks its victim’s immune system it has almost no symptoms.The virus is only known because it brings down the defenses against other diseases. Diseases that were easily warded off now make the patient sick. This is because his or her body can no longer fight them off. But these attacking diseases are not the root problem. The true sickness is the disease of the immune system.

Homosexuality should be viewed in similar terms . Homosexuality is the symptomatic sin not the root. Homosexuality is connected to the sin of Idolatry (worshipping created things). Idolatry is the root. But what caused the root to spring to life?  Clearly from Romans 1 we learn that having a Revelation of who God is and then rejecting Him in the face of Him revealing himself brings in progression. So the root of idolatry has always been present but recently that root has sprung branches and begun to grow in unhealthy ways. The cause of this spinging up is that God has recently revealed His son to the earth in powerful ways. (discussed later in this article) Roman’s 1 describes what this unhealthy growth looks like. 

Homosexuality, Blind Pride, Foolishness, Disobedience to Parents, Envy, Strife, Arrogance, Gossip ect.

But besides Romans 1 can we see another example of these truths in the Bible? When one thinks of homosexuality few Bible stories can be clearer than Sodom’s destruction (Genesis 18& 19). But what was the revelation (manifestation) of God to it’s inhabitants & leadership that allowed this process to take place in Sodom and it’s sister city of Gomorrah? How was God able to judge these cities so harshly? How did they get so far along in this process when other idolatrous societies flourished unharmed by the hand of God?

The answer can be found in Genesis 16. It was these cities interaction with King Melchizedek and the inhabitants of Salem. King Bera of Sodom was well acquainted with Melchizedek. Because of proximity they would of interacted with each other. The book of Hebrews clearly states that Melchizedek was a prototype of Christ. So the citizens of his kingdom (Salem) would have also been a Godly people. So the proximity of Salem it’s leadership & inhabitants provided a powerful revelation of who God is. Clearly in the face of this revelation Sodom continued in it’s evil ways and rampant Homosexuality & wickedness followed. The rest is as they say history.

I wish I could state that Christians and the Body of Christ today are playing a similar role that Melchizedek and the inhabitants of Salem played in the days of Sodom. But the spiritual condition of the visible church is without a doubt on the decline. Since the church is the light of the world if the condition of the church dims then the world goes from dusk to nightime and men cannot properly do the Lord's work.

But whether the church is doing her job or not does not restrict God. As the days grow closer He is ever more clearly demonstrating His authority and His righteousness throughout creation.

The movie the Passion of Christ and to a lesser extent the Biblical imagery & events of the destruction of the twin towers on September 11, 2001.These two events were powerful revelation's of God to the people of the earth. The Passion of Christ was the 8^th most watched movie of all times and showed in detailed imagery the death and resurrection of Christ. Although imperfect in it’s presentation Christ and Him crucified and resurrected was clearly declared.

In 2004 the Sunday after I had seen the “Passion of Christ” our Sunday school class was studying Romans 1. During the study I had a clear revelation of how the movie the “Passion of Christ” would be an important factor in a coming explosion of Homosexuality and its acceptance. When I shared it with my church group few could see the connection as clearly as I could.

The homosexual explosion that followed is undeniable and is clearly on the increase. Through the movie people took in the message of the cross yet refused to continue to glorify God by accepting the message of the cross. People who saw this movie brushed off its message and continued living life to please themselves. This despite such powerful imagery of what the Son of God did for them.

I think that it is important for all of those who are true followers of Christ that we need to stay strong and need to live lives that are pleasing to Christ. Melchizedek and we must assume the citizens of Salem were able to function and thrive. Although they were surrounded by the wickedness and violence of Sodom and Gomorrah they were untouched by it. Indeed there testimony was a large part of its downfall. Abraham was in similar standing he kept clear of the ways of wickedness and was untouched and even prospered during those days.

The same could not be said of Lot. Although we know from scripture he was a powerful servant of God and a true beliver he allowed himself to be entangled in Sodom and its citizenry. When Sodom fell it was almost impossible to untangle himself from its downfall. We need to keep strong and follow Christ’s example and he will supply and help us even in these evil days.
