MY TELEVISION SALVATION

"Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is Yours. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom; You are exalted as head over all.  Wealth and honor come from you; You are the ruler of all things. In Your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all." (1 Chronicles 29:11-12)

As a Christian, are you confused and baffled over our country's current  political atmosphere?   Are you wondering just what element of this political environment may our heavenly Father be occupying? Is He actually testing us and our country?  We know from His holy Word that absolutely nothing transpires or takes place unless God allows it. So just sit back, take on a divinely-inspired attitude, and watch Him at work in our lives and in our country.  Thus we have this "creative writing" parable blog.

I had apparently just gotten into a cavernous deep sleep, when suddenly I awoke finding myself in what appeared to be a large television studio surrounded by a number of television monitor screens. From what I could see, these screens were all broadcasting the news. And from all indications this news was focused on the United States' politics.

Not being a fan of the more liberal news mediums, I hesitated to fix my eyes on any one television monitor. However, I didn't have much of a choice, as I seemed to be a prisoner of the room.

Suddenly as if by divine encouragement, I happened to be   approached by what appeared to be a television technician. His belt was draped with wiring and plugs and he was wearing ear phones.  I assumed he was able to pick up on my facial expressions, as he immediately started a conversation in relation to the room setting.

"Can I help you?" he asked.

"Why yes, where am I and how did I get here?" I responded.

Skipping my question, he continued speaking.

"I understand you're somewhat perplexed by today's political events," he proclaimed.

"Perplexed, is not the word, I'm down right disgusted. I'm completely mystified, that America's politics would ever turn out as it has," I responded.

"By the way, who are you?" I continued.

"Never mind who I am, I'm here to help you," he exclaimed.

And at that moment, the most bizarre facet of our conversation occurred. He simply he waved his hands over the television monitors and they all blinked and went blank.

The man then asked a rather unusual question. "Do you know what faith is?" he exclaimed.

"Of course I do, our church just finished a Bible study on the subject.  It's found in (Hebrews 11:1). And if one doesn't have faith, they can't please God." (Hebrews 11:6)

"Why then are you so confused?" he asked.

"A good question," I replied.  

As soon as I had finished, the man waved his hand over the monitors once more, and they all flickered back on.  Only this time no news flashes of any kind, as all the monitor screens displayed Scripture references.

Monitor 1 displayed, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me." (John 14:1)

Monitor 2 displayed, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28)

Monitor 3 displayed, "He changes times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning." (Daniel 2:21)

And "The decision is announced by messengers, the holy ones declare the verdict, so that the living may know that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone He wishes and sets over them the lowliest of people." (Daniel 4:17)

Monitor 4 displayed, "By Me kings reign and rulers issue decrees that are just; by Me princes govern, and nobles—all who rule on earth." (Proverbs 8:15-16)

And "In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water  that he channels toward all who please him." (Proverbs 21:1)

Monitor 5 displayed, "For exaltation comes neither from the east
nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the Judge:
He puts down one, and exalts another." (Psalm 75:6-7)

"Wow, I get it! Enough is enough!" I exclaimed. But my remarks were too late.  Just like his arrival, the man just seemed to vanish in a cloud of smoke.

After he left, I happened to see a piece of paper on the floor. "What's this?" I asked myself. I picked up the  paper and it read "Let's not forget that God is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. There is no higher authority."   

Now, let me share the rest of the story with you. I found myself awake suddenly. Apparently, it all had been a wild dream, as my bed clothes were  wringing wet from sweat and my blanket had been pulled off the side of the bed.

"Wow, what I dream," I murmured.

And another strange thing had happened. Lying by my bedside was Mom's old tattered Bible, the Bible that Mom had lost several years ago. And stuck in this Bible was a piece of paper displaying all the scripture references that had appeared on the television monitors.  Yes, God does work in mysterious ways, His wonders to perform.

Well now, "All's well that ends well." I got the point that night. Now, I've stopped tuning into the media's concept of what's good for our country in lieu of making my life a practice of Bible study and prayer. Yes Mom, as you always said, "It's His Word that sustains us in times of trouble". Thus,  "MY TELEVISION SALVATION". May God Bless America!

God's sovereignty is an absolute power attribute. The natural human mind just cannot fathom the truth that God is absolutely sovereign.   Human pride is reluctant to suggest that an all-powerful God orders everything, and the carnal mind is filled with enmity against God, and absolutely despises the fact that the Bible teaches that nothing comes to pass except according to His eternal will.

You see, everything that exists in the universe exists because God allows it, decreed it, and called it into existence.(Psalm 115:3) This includes our personal life, our business life and our spiritual life. And oh yes, our political life, as well. (Ephesians 1:11) (Romans 11:36) (1 Cor 8:6)

So, as Christians, how do we change our country's political mindset?  We can do this only by supplication, by prayer, by holding to the truth of God's Word and by pleading our case before the Father in the name of Jesus. Together, we can change our country's mindset, one vote at a time. Please read the guidelines for our country in (2 Chronicles 7:14).
