Reach Out

‘because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.”’ Mark 5:28 (NIV)

This woman had heard the stories flying around town that a radical, itinerant preacher full of new teachings was able to make the sick well, heal the blind and even raise the dead. Could this be true? Could he do the same for her? If only she could get close enough to reach out and touch his cloak. Perhaps then…..

Believing the stories she had heard, she pushed her way past the curious onlookers to touch Jesus. Then, in that moment, her haemorrhaging stopped and her body was made well.

What a beautiful story of faith, persistence and courage. Here was a woman who had endured much embarrassment and perhaps been ostracized by society. Yet she boldly stepped out to receive a healing and this time, for the first time, she wasn’t disappointed.

Is it our turn to reach out to Jesus and receive? Sometimes we may feel that our problems keep us from him. Don’t let this became our reality. Jesus is always there to help. He is can bring peace and relief, no matter what our trouble. Reach out believing in his power. Reach out believing in his love. Can we approach Christ with a faith that is full of assurance that he is able to establish all that concerns us? Paul says, ‘Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and grace in our time of need.’ Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)

Don’t be merely curious about Jesus. Instead reach out and touch him. A touch that may change our lives forever.

Jennifer lives near Toowoomba, Queensland with her family. She enjoys encouraging others on their faith journey through mentoring and writing.
