Slipping Into Darkness

II Peter 2:17 reveals that there are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest, to whom the midst of darkness is reserved forever.

II Peter 3:17 say ye therefore beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.

Somewhere we have slipped into darkness. Slipping requires moving quietly and smoothly, gliding, losing ones balance, sliding out of place, shifting positions. Escaping or getting away from ones grip, to go gradually into, or out of an opinion, practice or condition, to decline in physical or mental ability, strength or keenness. Fall behind a scheduled production, to free one self or itself from, get loose from or unleash from the faith, miscarry, make a mistake, error in conduct or thinking, deviate.

Going into is to the inside of, to be in or within, to enter into darkness to a time and place in the course of. Interested in or involved with.

Darkness is the total or almost total absence of right, blindness, lack of enlightment, ignorance, evil, wickedness, secrecy, concealment or lack of clearness, obscurity.

We see Peter in his writing encouraging his readers to grow to escape depravity and be fruitful in your Christian life, demonstrate the certainty of your calling and election and have an abundance entrance into heaven. He warns them against false teachers, and that Jesus has not forsaken his promise to come again but is bringing to repentance every person who will comprise the body of Christ. When that last person is save he will come.

Peter for the Gospel was martyred, he witnessed Jesus transfiguration, he also almost slipped completely into darkness by his lying and denial of knowing Christ, but he repented, got back under grace and ran on to see what the end would be. His trip into darkness caused his enlightment to remember his revelation of who Jesus was and Jesus forewarning that he would deny him thrice. Peter walked with Jesus, was always the first to answer and he had faith in Jesus that the others did not have.

Peter also warned against false teachers out there that come, will come and is there to steal our lights out, for they are unable to satisfy our thirst for Christ, as Christ is spiritual and they are not, and they follow after whatever fashion or fad is going on in the church at the time. They have become entangled with the world and the world has taken them over. They have slipped into darkness. They corrupt the lives of men and women, boys and girls through their deceptive tactics. They are servant to the Devil.

Christians has moved out of position and accepted another course which has moved them to an absence of the place in God they should have grown to because of ignorance to what they are suppose to be and who they really are. Thereby a servant of darkness, sin, which God has already laid out their home, a home of continuous darkness and desolation. He encourages us in II Peter 3:17 Since you have been taught about the darkness, Satan, unrighteousness and denying Christ, beware, lest ye also be led away with the error of wickedness fall from your own steadfastness.

In Ephesians 4:14, we read that we are grown up, and has reached a level of maturity in Christ that we should not be easily deceived as a babe in Christ, but grow up in Christ in all aspects of Christian living, doctrine, conduct, service and righteousness.

Christian maturity is attained in part by thorough instruction in sound doctrine given in a loving manner. Ephesians 4:14 say we are no more children tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.

Jesus also warns us against false Christ and false prophets. In Mark 13:22-23, he said that they shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders, to seduce if it were possible, even the elect. But take ye heed; behold, I have foretold you all things. Jesus warns us against the imposters out there then and now. An imposter is a person who deceives under an assumed identity, a faker; persons who pretends to be other than what they are or who otherwise practice deception for gain. They assume the identity of another for the purposes of deceiving. An imposter is one who perpetrated fraud, they are self important, or a self- deluded, cheat who misrepresents himself.

Never have you heard of so much stuff going on in the Christian faith as you hear now. These today are doing a good job of deceiving even the Christians God has called, chosen, anointed, and appointed. Never have you seen so many believers except things of the darkness as they are today. They open up the door to deception and darkness slips right on into the church and into the lives of the saints. Because of these things come persecution and ultimate destruction. Because saints are comfortable with just coming to church, they don’t pray like they use to, don’t read and study the word anymore, lacks devotion time, fail to meditate day and night, they are made to stumble satisfying more of the flesh then spirit.

Because we don’t know who Jesus or the father is, we accept what we are told with no questions asked. We are in the dark concerning the things of God. Because we fear what the false witnesses say, we fall into another world of darkness. In John 9 it tells us about the blind man whom sight was returned. He couldn’t see, but he believed God. His faith delivered him out of his darkness. Many of us our faith takes us into darkness. His faith took him through obedience to Jesus word and he couldn’t see, so you know either he stumbled his way or sought out help for which his condition held him bound. But he found the pool of Siloam and followed the instruction of Jesus. For best results follow instructions.

First we have to love God and believe his word, and if we love him, then we have to obey what his word say. Walk in righteousness, and in all our ways please him, for to obey is to live, live the gospel. If you live the gospel everyday, it’s hard for you to slip into darkness, as Peter said, if you are righteous and sin is around you or going on around you, it vexes your righteous soul. II Peter 2:9 say that the Lord know how to deliver the Godly out of temptation and to reserve the unjust to the days of judgment to be punished. If you trust him, hold faithful to him he will deliver you if you yield not to temptation. God delivered Lot out of Sodom and Gomorrah before he destroyed it.

Some people in our lives choose the way of darkness rather than God and God will move us out of position before he send destruction to them. It’s up to the particular individual if we choose darkness over light when we sin. And when the light come we need to stay in the light, otherwise we will slip back into darkness. For they that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise governments, presumptuous are they, self- willed, and they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. People that walk after the flesh always pretend that they know God, but won’t obey him. They are nasty and despise anyone telling them anything. They are always after their own will, seeking their own gain and will talk about you, Jesus and every other child of God with no fear. They are cursed into darkness, children of a curse. They try to satisfy the spirit man with fleshly things and they are not saved. Darkness yet have them bound and are surely headed for death and destruction. Their home is in outer darkness of Hell. They are slipping into darkness.

They also speak evil of things they understand not. When you have slipped into darkness, your understanding is near zero, but you declare that you know it all and understand all things. You deceive only yourself. You actually are denying the way of truth. You actually are denying the way of truth. You also listen to every thing that speaks against God and those he love. Nobody is right but you and even when you are wrong you believe yourself to be right.

When a man, woman, boy or girl has slipped into darkness:

1. The face changes, they can’t look into your face any longer, there is no eye contact. Guilt sets in them.
2. Their talk changes, they no longer talk about God but everything other than God.
3. They don’t have time to read and study God’s word, and they have lost their appetite to feed the spirit.
4. They are deceptive, if you are about God, then they are. They say what they think you want to hear. They do for a while what seem right, but can’t hold to it because it’s not a part of them.

Again, old habits return causing them to return to their own vomit as II Peter 2:22 says. The dog returned to his own vomit again. They always make promises to quit them, but can’t give it up because their love for darkness is greater than their love for God. But God say after they have escaped the pollution of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to know the way of righteousness, then after they have known it to turn from the Holy Commandments delivered unto them, for they will stand before God in full knowledge, inexcusable.

Slipping into darkness is a one- way ticket to Hell and it’s no coming out, it’s eternal. What in Hell do you want when you can come into the light to escape the eternal darkness, render your hearts to Jesus today.

You don’t have to continue slipping and sliding, dodging and hiding, being shaky and flaky, being betrayed and betraying, being deceived and deceiving, being deserted and deserting, being forsaken and forsaking, Jesus came to save you from darkness, he is the light.

Take hold of his word today, live of the gospel preached to you today and follow after righteousness, joy, peace, those things that are right and no more slipping into darkness. With men it is impossible, but not with God, for with God all things are possible. Don’t be as some that grope in the dark, going through dark clouds in the dark with their eyes darkened, all their sayings dark, their understanding dark and most likely their eternity is dark.

The light excels darkness and only a fool walk in darkness after the light has come. The world is full of darkness but you don’t have to stay in darkness, nor let the power of darkness control you. Their deeds are done in darkness and their works is darkness. Its darkness all over the world, but do you have to be of the world? The world love darkness but you have a choice today to love God. Don’t stay chained up; come out of the night, the blackness, the darkness of the sinful world.
