Be Salt Unto the Earth

“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out” Luke 14:34-35a NIV

Why is salt good? It enhances flavor. It brings out what otherwise might be dull or drab. It can truly make many foods taste much better. Salt even has uses other than food enhancement. However, what is salt good for if it loses its saltiness? As Christ says above, it is not even for the manure pile.

Christ says that His followers are salt of the earth. Without followers of Christ existing in this world (the salt of the earth) what would this world be, other than worldly. Without the salt, which we are in Christ, the world would be mundane, subjected to the earthly desires of all within. Truly only the ones with the strongest worldly desires would survive. The salt of the earth helps to bring a spiritual realm to that which would otherwise be without true spirit. We share the spirit of Christ. We share His love. We do that which we can to aid in directing others to Christ.

Let us not lose our saltiness! Let us carry on in the name of Jesus Christ.
