  I entered the library a mother was allowing her child to slide books down the return chute in the foyer.  The child was delighted, it was such fun for her!  As I slid my own book down the chute it was with new appreciation for the fun inherent in the act.  Then later another young parent was offering to activate the water fountain for his small daughter when she exclaimed, "No, I want to do it!"  And so she did and was proud of it.  Then I followed using the fountain myself again with renewed gratitude for being able to do it for myself.  I realize there are so many little acts like that over the course of a day that are potential sources of wonder or gratitude to help make the living of our lives more full, more deliberate.  Yes, as we get older it requires more or different stimuli to provoke new wonder, but it may be if we hold on to some of our early and more simple wonder and appreciation we'll be more open and primed for the more complex versions!
