Encouragement
We may have walked through numerous roads and traveled to many places right from our childhood years to the present day.
But did we ever imagine say perhaps in our childhood times that one day this same place in our adult years was going to be a remarkable place filled with marvelous moments and too sweet memories.
At that time, we may have not even envisioned what glory lay ahead for us in this very place and lane.
Once we taste the delicacy of this glory, however many times we walk down this road, it is still not sufficient for us. We want more and more of these heart seizing moments on earth.
Similarly, we do not know at a certain point in life who are the people who are going to come into our lives and the beautiful relationship that we are going to share with them over a period of time.
Sometimes, we might save up gifts thinking that one fine day we shall find the right person to present it to and by all means this right person will definitely show up later in life who will be the rightful owner of the gift which we had stored so carefully all along.
In life the physical presence of the person can be so much more meaningful and overide all other forms of communication. A short time spent just seeing the person and being with them can add so much colour to that day, hour and time.
At other times, we can connect so easily with people whom we have just met and develop a strong bond in no time.
Each day, we want more and more love from our loved ones with every new moment revealing another new emotion of love. We should also in turn keep giving more of our hearts and love to others who wait to receive the same from us.
Just as we want more of good times and wonderful moments in life, we should also crave more and more for the heavenly things that can be attained here on earth itself.
If we want more and more of the Holy Spirit to work marvels in our daily occurences and in times of trials to revert the tough times into an easy ride, we have to keep using the power of the spirit that lies in each one of us. This alone can help us accomplish what can be deemed difficult at times.
It is also important to understand the line which divides what can be done with human power on this earth and that which cannot be done by us mortals but can definitely be done by God's infinite power from heaven.
When we do all that we can possibly do, God then moves in to do the impossible. We see how when Jesus raised Lazarus back to life, He commanded him to come out of the tomb of death which Lazarus did. This was something ony Jesus could perform by raising him from the dead. Once Lazarus walked out, Jesus then instructed the people around him to untie his bandages which were wound around his body. This was something physical which only the earthly people could do. Hence they were delegated with the part that they could perform whereas Jesus accomplished the supernatural part.
Likewise, we as earthly beings can only raise up our voiced prayers from the depths of our hearts. This is the part which can come from us. When God answers those prayers he has done the part which only he can grant us from above.
We in turn, should also have a strong belief that he can turn a crumpled bit of paper back into a smooth sheet. If our faith is strong, God will do the unimaginable for us without any effort and in a fraction of a second.
We all know that when Jesus went around healing the crowds, He rebuked the unclean spirits and commanded them to come out from those whom they tormented. We too in turn should rebuke any sickness or trial from ravaging us. We can surely do this when the Holy Spirit is so strong within us and we too claim authority over them in the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
We are in the season of Lent, a time of contemplation and prayer. We keep reading on how fasting should not necessarily be from food only but from various other attachments of entertainment and earthly habits that is destructive to our souls. We do not wear sack clothes like the people of Israel did in the Old Testament but their dedication and fervour to fasting and alms giving is a wonderful example to follow, their strict renouncement and fidelty to God is worth following.
As we prepare ourselves during this Holy season to walk with our Lord on his road of suffering and stay with him besides the Cross until we welcome him when he rises from the tomb, let us recall the words of St.John of the Cross who stated that in the evening of our life, we will be judged on love alone. How much we have loved and the lovely ways in which we have loved will be the hallmark on the bench of judgement.
After all, it was because of Love that Jesus took up his Cross and rose from the dead to give us the most beautiful gift of Love when we reside with Him forever where our hearts want to be for all eternity.
