Nor Sol! Nor Luna! In their azure sky
Could hope to match the brilliance of the glow
That God saw fit to frame within two orbs
Beset in one who treads the Earth below.
When e’er I behold those windows opened wide
To pour warm light upon my dismal day,
I’m thankful for the curtains that subdue
The majesty of such a lovely ray;
For were I subject to the full effect
Of lumens from that pure celestial beam,
I fear my own lamps would be brought to naught,
So dazzled by the brightness of that gleam.
I thank Him for the light within your eyes
And praise Him when those curtains rise.
