Poetry
I was reading about Judas, and how he betrayed our Lord for thirty pieces of silver, gotten from the High Priest.
While meditating on how someone could commit such a crime the Lord showed me Judas, and he looked just like me.
I kept on reading, I seen Jesus in the garden taken captive as all his disciples forsook the Lord Jesus, and did flee.
The Lord brought to my remembrance the times I was scared, ashamed, and as I seen the disciples faces, they looked just like me.
I read on and found Peter by a fire of coals, warming himself with God’s enemies, denying our Lord Jesus for time number three.
I was ashamed to look on, for I knew what awaited me, warming himself with Peter was a familiar face, it was me.
The noise was tremendous, the crowd was screaming over and over give us Barrabas, all present seemed to agree.
While meditating on this scene, knowing the enmity in their hearts I seen a familiar face in the mob, and it was me.
In the judgment hall as Pilate said over and over I find no fault in this man, but the angry crowd could not hear his plea.
What a mockery of justice as I mused on this fake trial, then I saw one in the crowd crying condemn him, and yes it was me.
I saw the Roman soldiers beating, mocking our Lord, spitting in his face. His visage marred beyond the point any man could be.
This was very difficult, for I looked at one of the soldiers committing this travesty of justice, and yes this one soldier was me.
I followed on as they hung him on a cross at Golgotha with two other men, condemned to die because they were thieves.
They both joined the crowd in mocking our Lord Jesus, one grew quiet as the other continued, and yes this thief was me.
I saw the crowd still mocking Jesus as one of them ran to fill a sponge with vinegar, and put it to my Lord’s lips to drink.
Again as I sat in utter consternation at the cruelty of this angry mob, I seen the one with the sponge, and it was me.
I fit in every role, most offensive to God, the most repulsive of all the people that the Lord had just let me see.
Where depravity was at its greatest point of measure, was also found a sufficient supply of God’s wonderful mercy.
Then God’s tender mercy took me back to the cross to the scene with the two thieves, and a still small voice said come and see.
I saw one of the thieves repenting, asking Jesus for forgiveness, and Jesus granting his request. When I got just a glimpse of the thief’s face, praise God it was me.
